This was THE BEST Indian meal we have EVER tasted & we have eaten at many different Indian restaurants.
The staff were so friendly, efficient & welcoming. The flavours of the lamb biriyani, butter chicken & the lamb rogan josh were AMAZING! We also loved the samosas and butter nan bread....delish! We cannot wait to return!

To be honest even though it is an Indian restaurant but no flavours at all that an Indian living in abroad craves for.. I have ordered chicken saag as they didn't had Sarson ka saag, plain and garlic naan(only melted butter and crushed garlic paste was applied on top of plain naan).. we got uncooked chicken bits of plain boiled chicken added to spinach gravy with no spices at all except salt. The only thing I liked a bit is Gulab Jamun even though it had excess of powdered sugar on top. Will never come back and won't recommend to any indian who likes authentic Indian food. Waste of money as too expensive restaurant compared to low quality of food served and big disappointment.

A Blackburn gem. Such flavours! They have goat on the Menu!!! Golden rule, if you see goat curry, order it! Fabulous, as was the spices and flavours in the prawn masala. Oh! Best papadums I've ever eaten. And the service was very good. The waitress was so cool..even better when she starts baracking for Richmond 🐅

Decent value for good quality food, in a nice comfortable atmosphere. Goat curry was our clear favourite. Try the goat curry. Excellent fragrant coconut rice. Garlic naan was ok, certainly not lacking in garlic! 👍 Oh and did I mention the goat curry? 😝 The waitress was polite, but after bringing our food we didn’t see much of them at all, and it was an extremely quiet night.

Just noticed that my review from 4 years ago had been removed somehow.... The food here was soooo bad that it's scarred me for life... People who think this place serves good indian food either lack tadtebuds or haven't had real Indian food. My chicken curry tasted like the meat and the gravy met on the way from the kitchen to the table... Absolutely abysmal!!!

Very friendly staff and fast service. My husband and I often go there and He has a goat curry and I have a chicken vindaloo and we both have garlic naan. goat curry is mild but got a typical smell of goat which I don't like but my husband loves it. My chicken vindaloo is very tasty and very spicy but you still manage to eat.

Came here to grab a quick take away on a freezing night after we had been out all day. We ordered butter chicken, half a tandoori chicken, naan & rice. Being freezing we waited inside until our order was ready. The restaurant was full and there seemed to be some big Indian family groups eating with their hands which I thought was a good sign as to the authenticity of the place. We did wait a fair while for our meal due to the number of phone orders coming in to pick up. Unfortunately we weren't that organised. The butter chicken was quite mild and creamy. Kelisi has had a strange fascination with tandoori and chicken tikka over the past few months and has to order it. Ganesh is top 3 for tandoor for us. Naan was a bit limp and rice a little lack lustre by the time we got home which is an unfortunate consequence of getting take away. Would definitely come back here again to dine in. Glad we discovered a good local Indian shop a 5 minute drive from home

As you exit Blackburn Station, you’ll instantly spot Ganesh, being directly in front of the pedestrian crossing and also one of the few restaurants nearby. The interior has an almost fine dining feel to it, but the staff make it feel quite homely.

We arrived quite late so the restaurant was almost empty, but we were greeted as soon as we entered. The first thing you’ll notice when you enter the restaurant is the aroma of herbs and spices. It might be a bit strong at first, but you get used to it.

Check out the review of Ganesh Indian in the blog post below.

Last day of second term celebrations were in order, so we packed off the family for Ganesh opposite Blackburn station. We entered up a walkway and were greeted by friendly smiles, warm welcomes and immediately placed at our table at the front window.

Decision as to what to eat was made easy by the choice of two banquets at the front of the hefty menu. We selected the $40.00 per head menu for the five of us. The hostess did suggest that with two smaller kids we'd get away with ordering for four, but The Lovely Man was keen to ensure enough food so we stuck with five. We also ordered a mango lassi - handy in case anything was too spicy for our youngest. I had a taste, it was great, not too sweet, a barely-there saltiness, looked to have a mango syup drizzled on the outside of the milk-shake style glass. The kids could well settled for a lassi and be happy.

Almost immediately our starter arrived, some cumin studded pappadams (how many different ways can this word be spelt?) along with a mint chutney, which was clearly void of artificial colour as it was the softest green rather than the often vivid greens you can see. This chutney was delicious, one of the best versions we've tried, and the staff were more than happy to refill our cup (well actually they brought us a bigger bowl) when one of my kids suggested they liked it. The other side to the crisp wafers was a generous serve of raita, perfect for our youngest, who is less keen on hot spices.

Hot on the heals of the starter came very generously proportioned samosa, these had a lovely soft warm heat, and were not at all oily. A delicious plate of tandoori fish was next, very moist and well cooked this was well-flavoured, but not at all 'spicy' so our youngest was especially pleased with this. Next in line came the dish of the night for me; A sizzling plate of tandoori lamb cutlets, along with tandoori chicken. The chicken was nice, but the cutlets were fabulous, wonderful flavour, still pink within (I think I have only ever had them well-done elsewhere), they were very tender. The whole table probably loved those cutlets the most of all our food.

On to mains, served by our most earnest waiter in training, and a lovely friendly more experienced waitress, we got tons of food (right about here I think The Lovely Man was thinking he should have listened to our wise hostess). Butter chicken, lamb madras, prawn masala, vegetable korma. Along with all of that were copies pieces of crispy outside, soft inside naans of both the garlic and plain variety and some perfectly cooked basmati rice. We were still enjoying our raita and mint chutney with it all. The lamb madras was the hit of the mains, while butter chicken fell a little flat for me, it wasn't bad, but it surprised me by tasting like spicy tomato soup. The prawns were perfectly cooked medium-sized prawns in a spiced, but not too-spicy sauce. We'd not specified anything to be especially hot or not, and felt these dishes were perfect for your average diner. I am sure you could knock your socks off with a vindaloo here, but perhaps another night, when we're without the kids!

We were full yes, but the final dish, gulab jamum was on its way. I have to be honest, these single little golden balls were the best version of gulab jamun I have tasted. The ice-cream had a few ice crystals, but the dumplings had the best flavour I've tasted, often they're just sweet and haven't much flavour, but these were perfectly flavoured and scented. A lovely finish.

There were a few minor hiccups with service, but trivial only, the staff were friendly and the offers of more food (while we sat back tempted to undo buttons) showed their willingness to feed their customers well. Tea and coffee is also offered in the banquet, but, yeah, we over-ordered, so left it at that.
Edit: Menu featured above is take-away prices I believe.

Had a lovely dinner at Ganesh Indian. Food is a bit pricier than the menu here on Zomato - curries are around $18 and rice is $4. We stuck with roti and naan which were cheaper at $2.50-3. But all the food was yummy and the portion sizes are reasonable.

Our entrees were cauliflower and potato balls with a spicy yoghurt sauce, which was filling and different. Butter chicken was flavorful, sweet, creamy and delicious. Roti was a bit hard and dry - the garlic naan was much better as it was soft but not overly doughy. The Indian homemade ice cream was like a "cultural hit" - it was full of spices and so unique in taste, however texture was a bit too icey and hard for ice cream.

The atmosphere was nice and service was warm, although at times we felt ignored by one of the staff (I think she's the owner) who didn't acknowledge us for almost 5mins while we were standing waiting to be seated. She looked up and saw us, but didn't acknowledge us - we were finally seated when another staff member ran out of the kitchen apologizing and greeting us. She was quite warm and friendly later in the night though - I feel like she wasn't unintentionally rude but just wasn't aware.

Overall we had a nice dinner and we were satisfied with the food and service. Will be back!

Indian food is something that I don't eat a whole lot of, because my mum has never been a fan, and it's just not as abundant as some other cuisines in Melbourne, in the areas I frequent anyway. However, Ganesh Indian is super close to me, and after ordering take away a couple of times from them, my friends and I decided to dine in at the restaurant.

Wow. I thought I didn't like Indian food that much, so I've never tried this place despite living in the area for 20 years. Hidden Gem in the Eastern Suburbs. It was my husbands 60th and we thought we'd celebrate his birthday with a few of our close friends at Ganesh. The food was absolutely delicious!!! Not only was the food good but the lady (who I think is the owner) was extremely friendly and very helpful when ordering. The best part was we got 'free desserts' when she realised it was my husbands birthday. Don't bother. I felt compelled to write a review after multiple occasions of terrible service. If ordering take away ignore when they say it will be ready in 20 minutes. I think they wait till you actually arrive and then start cooking. So you get to spend another 20-30 minutes sitting there. On another occasion my food was waiting at the check out and instead of serving me. Another lady came in after and they served her. When i queried this, the owner said that this particular lady was difficult so she was served first. Maybe you need to be difficult to get any decent service here? Finally tonight after ordering take away (you may think I'm a glutton for punishment but it's just around the corner), we arrived to find that our food had been given to another customer who was bringing the food back. I told them not to bother and will never eat there again. It's quite disappointing as the food is pretty good, but not worth the terrible service. There are 2 other Indian places close by who will be getting my custom.

Poor service. As a regular customer of this restaurant, I could not fault it until our last visit. I don't know if there are new management, as the staff were different to who we normally have on a Saturday. We had to wait a fair while to place our orders, despite being the only (2) customers..the staff seems to be more interested in putting together three tables than serving us. One of us received our drink after a considerable wait, the other did not. When we asked for that drink the staff member was surprised that I wanted one despite having written it on the order. We didn't wait for our food as the service was appalling and went to another Indian restaurant in the area. We will not be going back. We DID like this restaurant once, the food and service was great. Not any more. No service, no customers.

Unimpressed. Was my daughters birthday. Walked in and felt like we were inconveniencing the owner with our kids. We had to find our own table. No menus for 10 mins. Received a bowl of Raita b4 the menu. Thought it was a nice accompaniment to soon to come Papadums. No Papadums for another 10 mins.

Stopped the lady at the counter who I think owns the place to ask for Papadums. She saw the raita on and asked us if we ordered that. When we said no she called a girl who seemed to have little idea and told her she should not have served us the raita. By that time we had eaten half the bowl. She asked the waiter to take it away n she was so loud that everyone turned around. We felt offended Bcoz the least was to ask us if she cud add it to our bill. We left shortly afterwards n will never go back. One of the poorest customer service experience we have had.

Friendly service, great for the kids. We were greeted straight away and fussed over as though we were long lost relatives by the head waitress. She was very willing to alter the menu to suit our needs (although in end we chose to order straight off the menu) The mixed grill platter was enjoyed by everyone in the family but the chicken was a tad dry. It was complimented well with the vegetable korma. The kids devoured their mango lassis which were thick and rich but a little too sweet. Overall a very pleasant dining experience and one which can be enjoyed on a budget.

Reasonable for the price. Indian waitress was friendly and food arrived quite promptly. The quality of the dishes was middling. The Chicken Saag had a strange taste, perhaps too much fenugreek. The prices are modest and the good is OK for that price point. Also, there is no way you get out of here for less than $30 per head, so I don't know why Urbansppon rate it at $15.

Ganesh Indian restaurant is easy to find if you are arriving by train. It is directly opposite Blackburn station on South Parade. I had meet my friend Mr H at the station and we wandered over to Ganesh. We were welcomed warmly and given our pick of tables. It was 6pm on a Thursday night and still quiet. It did fill up a little bit during the evening and they seemed to be doing a steady take-away trade as well. Mr H and I took a little while to even open our menus as it has been a while since we caught up and we were too busy talking! We were served by a trainee staff member and while she was very nice she was a little over enthusiastic at times (I shouldn't really complain about that, there are a lot of unenthusiastic and grumpy wait staff out there that could take a lesson or two from this young girl). We ordered chicken tikka (pieces of chicken marinated with yogurt, spices, ginger and garlic, roasted in Tandoor) and vegetable samosas (potato and peas mixed with mild spices stuffed i
