I spent a night going around to all the bars around uptown Athens and found that The Union is where all the queers and indie folks hang out (which is exactly my kind of place). Also, their bathroom has fancy toilet paper, like charmin or somethings. Love this place. Also the bartender rendell is very kind.

The upstairs bar is a fantastic music venue. Great shows, generally $5 cover <edit, since reopening after COVID-19 shutdown, $8 cover>. Highly recommend.

Arrived as the other bars were closing up and this place was still kicking. Has all the bar drinking basics. Bar downstairs & pool table and upstairs outdoor patio to hang. Plenty of artsy types and plenty of be yourself types, an those ready to be 'fabulous'. Not open minded or interested in anything goes mingle, then this is not the place for you.

Service was horrible. Paid $8 to get into the show/upstairs bar, then spent about 20 minutes waiting for a drink because the bartender was taking her sweet time making her friend’s drinks and talking with them. I ended up leaving without ever getting a drink. I’ve been in bars that were way busier than that and have gotten my drink in a way more timely manner.

I appreciate The Union checking for proof of vaccination at the door. I felt safe and comfortable at my first indoor concert in almost 2 years! :)

Kinda funny how the only place in town that would serve me underage is also the same one unlawfully requiring proof of vaccination to enter. I have a religious exemption. Unconstitutional and unethical to use my religious beliefs against me. Lawsuit

Good bartender, fair priced beers feels cozy with a darker room. Best way to describe this place is a local "tavern" as opposed to a "Bar" or "Pub" regardless of their name. Yes, there is a difference and it is something you would know by feel of the room alone.

This is an excellent music venue. Since 2011, the place has been remodeled in batches. The interior is beautiful, the drinks are cheap and plentiful, and the bartenders are friendly and accurate. I don't know what else you could want from a bar / venue. Some major bands have played here. The stage has also incubated some great local talent. It's one of my favorite places to see music and have a beer.
