Toraya is back!!! The new space is so much more open, definitely.different, but the quality hasn't changed. Still some of the best Japanese/sushi you'll find in the area.

I was told to better leave by attendanr. They were not able to accommodate request provided they had the capacity to do so. Incredibly rude. Unexpectedly rude. No tolerance to toddlers. Micromanaged by attendanr. Inflexible. A family of two were eating. A third member arrived and they were not able to accommodate them claiming they had no space. It was not true. There was plenty of space. The new family member who arrived was told to seat elsewhere. When family member insisted he wanted to seat with his family he was told it was not possible. Attendant told the eating party (the two already at the table) that she should have told them there w a third person coming. Really? Are réservations needed? Attendant was redirecting the toddler at the table without parents permission to do so. Toddler and parent were uncomfortable and unable to eat comfortably. Disgusting. Pictures will show the availability of the space as customer request for accommodate was denied

2022 Update: still love it. Really well designed, airy space, great food and presentation. My kids were bummed they no longer had their old favorites, but still enjoyed the food. I loved the pork belly and tofu. Will be back to try other new items on the menu. So cozy and authentic. This was my second visit, and I was immediately transported back to that time I went to Tokyo and had sushi at a tiny place like Toraya. That flavor! You know what I mean if you love true Japanese food. I haven't heard this much Japanese spoken around me, in Boston. There were three separate parties of Japanese folks talking in Japanese. The waitress spoke Japanese. The sushi chef- I am pretty sure he is Japanese AND went to those old fashion sushi school. I can't think of any sushi place in the greater Boston area that is run by Japanese sushi master- I feel like it's a dying tradition at lease in the US and enjoy it while you can! (Vs. Uni which is also great, but that is almost different kind of cuisine in my book). Note: there is always wait so it is hard if you have little kids. There is no space to bring the stroller inside so plan accordingly. It's worth it.

Excellent food. Nice ambience. Be prepared to wait as it is a small place. Very authentic Japanese style sushi, thin slices with fish or seafood on a mouthful size amount of rice of excellent quality. The small plates were also tasty and lovingly plated. I will be going back.

I have been at the early incarnation of Toraya and i enjoyed the adventurous reinterpretation of their menu. The flavors mingle and accentuate their incredibly fresh seafood. I like it when a chef has fun. I do not like it though when the hostess/waitress shows indifference as it completely silences the harmony of their offerings.

Delicious sushi, affordable. Small interior not many tables (and a bit close together), but clean and pleasant. It would have been nice to have soft music playing to obfuscate the noise between tables.
