Flamant

Four course setting, which we chose. Very creative and absolutely the best tasting and assorted variety selection. Snacks: Blue Crab Rolls, Salmon Swirls and Lamb Meatballs Apertizer: Crayfish Dumplings, Sirloin Tartee with gumdrop Blue Cheese and homemade French fries Main Course: Tile Fish Filet, Lamb and Scallops on Sautéed Green Desert: The pear desert was delicious, the Miso Pot De Creme coconut Carmel melt in your mouth and Chocolate Crunchy Bar that had a chocolate mousse on top of marshmallows on top of chocolate cake with sprinkles of peppermint that the flavor pleasantly lingers well after the last bite. All the above was shared at our table with complete joy and can't wait for next dining experience with such great food and excellent service.

We've been going to Flamant since they opened and each year they seem to get even better. My wife and I loved the outdoor seating and had a wonderful meal with friends. There were a few slip ups with our server (no spoons for the soup ex), but nothing serious. My only comment on it was that the food felt worthy of a Michelin star someday but our service did not. We particularly enjoyed the gazpacho soup which was great on a very hot day.

Flamant has what I call an eclectic menu with lots of interesting combinations of ingredients that the chef expertly presents. This is an expensive restaurant and for me it is a special evening type of place you go to for anniversaries, birthdays and date nights where you want to show off. But if you go, you will not be disappointed. Flamant is one of the top food stops in Annapolis and the food and wine is excellent. I have been there multiple times and with a seasonally adjusted menu, I have never been disappointed.

Unfortunately the new Flamant Bistro is not what I or my party was hoping for. Maybe others will like it better, but our experience was long wait time for food. Not asked how we would like our steak prepared, food having to go back to the kitchen due to being almost cold, and having an item left out of something you order then being told you have to ask for it when it is listed under the item. We have been there twice before it transformed into a bistro and we absolutely loved it, and labeled it our favorite restaurant in Annapolis. Hopefully they are still trying to figure things out?

There was nothing exciting or interesting about this place, especially the location/view. The service was the slowest we have ever experienced. And not due to them being busy - our waitress barely came by and we had to keep asking for her so we could order our drinks and then food. The food and drinks were good but way overpriced. I would have given 3 stars but our dining experience ended with a check that included 20% gratuity because we had 6 people. 20% is the high end of tipping and needs to be earned. 99% of the time we tip 20%, and reserve 18/15 and sometimes 10% for poor service only. In this case we felt 15% was more appropriate because our waitress showed very little interest in serving us. Being forced to pay the top tipping rate knocked 1 more star off, and we will not be back.

Food is great. The restaurant is too dark where we were seated. The service was rushed - I still had my cocktail when the entree arrived. The manager was defensive when we explained that it is impossible to fillet a fish in the dark. Apparently it’s the customer's fault for ordering a full fish and not being able to eat it because they can’t see where the bones are. The manager explained he could have turned on a light which is above another table but I could not imagine making another table upset with too much light. On the whole, a ridiculous response which prompted us to react in turn. A manager is supposed to diffuse complaints not throw gasoline on the fire. He should have acknowledged the lighting issue, told us that it would be fixed (even if he had no intention), and then comped the fish. Goofy place which should have been amazing, elegant and memorable.
