Tiny but mighty kitchen with imagination matched by execution. The raw dishes (hamachi, tuna, beef) stood out, but don't underestimate the catfish sandwich! Excellent cocktails and fine bartender.

The food was amazing! The service was an additional plus from the waitress. Ordered 7 dishes, and each dish was delicious and beautifully created. The dishes ordered were either seafood or vegetables. The Uni Toast is the highlight of the meal for all uni lovers. The toast was warm, with the eggs being soft and added a nice layer of texture with the soft uni on top that melted like butter.
Also ordered a bottle of wine, Love You Bunches, which was really light and crisp, and an overall great pairing for the meal.
The chef, Kevin Tien, even came out to chat with us for a bit. He was great and made sure we were enjoying our food.
The restaurant itself is nice and small inside, but they do have outdoor seating with heated lamps. Sat outside, and it felt great with the lamps next to me in the evening. One of my favorite restaurants in DC, and will definitely return!

Fantastic dining experience!
We had reservations (which makes the experience much more smooth and predictable) and got a call that we could head in earlier than our seating time, if desired. From the moment we arrived, the staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.
The food and drink menu is short, but incredibly well crafted. Despite having dietary restriction, I was able to enjoy much of the menu. The dishes we had were playful yet composed. Each taste and texture in the dishes is planned to perfection and truly creates an experience.
The service was just as wonderful as the food. Finished dishes were whisked away immediately and the table was never empty. New flatware and plates were dropped by occasionally to keep from muddling flavors.
Despite the too notch service and impeccable food, Himitsu doesn't feel stuffy or like you're in a fancy schmancy spot. It is comfortable and quaint, where you aren't afraid to eat something the wrong way, mispronounce a dish name, or have to ask what a certain ingredient is.
I would highly recommend Himitsu and feel that the food and overall experience more than lives up to the hype surrounding the restaurant.

Excellent place for a meal. The reservation process was welcomed. There's a deposit required that helps to ensure your reservation and makes sure you show up. It's later deducted from the bill. Also there are several seating times that you can choose. The restaurant was also kind enough to call ahead of time when they had room a little before our reservation.
The staff was very friendly and efficient even though the restaurant was packed. They explained the details of the menu and were very knowledgeable about the ingredients and any dietary restriction. The menu was clearly labeled as well.
Service was excellent with us never having to wait on an empty plate or the next course.
Food was excellent with a big variety of flavors and textures in each bite.
Will definitely go back again

A cozy, deliciously creative and tasteful atmosphere. They designed their menu to be simple and full of unique dishes. They curate your order and bring everything out based on how the flavors compliment each other. Every dish probably serves about 2-3 and we highly encourage you to get about 4-5 with that amount of people. While a little pricey, the quality of food, service and is definitely worth it!

We ordered the entire menu for four people. It was sufficient. While the food was good it did not excite my palate as much as I had expected.
My wife got there at 4:45 on a Wednesday and was the second person in line. The rest of us arrived by 6 and we were seated right away. Inside the place looks almost identical to Crane & Turtle. (I miss Crane & Turtle).
The service was prompt and friendly. Our server knew the dishes, wine and drinks inside out. The food came out to the table at a timely and brisk pace.
Each of us ordered a different cocktail but each drink fell flat. I thought Himitsu was known for amazing cocktails? We asked them to make us mescal margaritas....those were good.
All the fish dishes, except for the trout, were sashimi. The fish were fresh and the dishes were complex. The fried oysters were my favorite. My wife loved the shrimp toast. The karaage was not good - it was overly seasoned and soggy. The Wagyu beef left me hopeless and wanting.
Himitsu does not offer dessert...so no happy ending. They send diners to Lulabelle's Sweet Shop across the street. Lulabelle's makes damn good chocolate ice cream!
The total per person including tip was about $130. We plan to return when the menu changes.

Super amazing fresh dishes! Fresh ideas and fresh food! Unique twists on Japanese classics with no wrong choices on the menu. Cocktails are creative and tasty as well. Sharable small dishes. Have fun choosing!

Wonderful staff. Professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. Food is beyond comparison to anything I've had in DC in recent memory. Menu changes with availability and the seasons so be prepared for something totally different than what's pictured as the chef continues to improve upon itself. Great vibe, enjoyed the music, and was fortunate to have great weather to dine outside. The drinks are finely crafted and inspired by the chef's travels and make for a charming and tasty selection. Definitely try to explore the whole menu! You'll be impressed at what this tiny kitchen can pump out.

Loved our dinner here! We arrived just around 5pm and were seated right away for a party of two. We even received a free cocktail for dining before 6pm! Our server's recommendations were spot on. Everything we ordered was amazing - our favorite was the hamachi crudo. We ordered four plates to share, and one cocktail each, and the bill came to ~$50/person. A reasonable price for such amazing dishes. Will absolutely be back!

Went for dinner and was pretty impressed. We had the squash app, which has popcorn on it (really good) as well as a few raw dishes. We also had the eggplant and the shrimp as our hot dishes. Everything was great and would definitely go again. They don't accept reservation so you may have to wait a bit but Hank's cocktail bar is across the street so you can have a drink while you wait.
