Millers Bakery

Review long overdue. I personally had one of the best experiences ordering from Millers in tenafly. I ordered a custom cake for my sons 10th birthday and they did exactly what I asked for. Even delivered! The cake was so moist and delicious. It was more than I could ask for. The staff was friendly communicating and efficient. I will be ordering from here all my cakes.

I visited here this morning and overall it was disappointing. No one said hi when I entered not even when I said hello at the counter. Someone else came in when I was looking at the menu. I told him I need more minutes so you can go ahead. One of the staff was so welcoming to him and said hi as soon as she saw him. But I didn’t get any greeting even when I said hi first. I ordered hot latte and was waiting for it. The staff who made my coffee roughly poured milk into a cup in front of me and turned around without answering when I said thank you so much. She didn’t even look at me as if I wasn’t there. I don’t know if it was just my misunderstanding but I could tell that the way they treat other customer and me were different. I don’t know if it was because I’m Asian or because I’m younger than them so they don’t really care about young customer like me. I don’t think I’ll visit again.

Called in and reserved something to be made for a birthday. Showed up on the day which they said it will be done. Nothing was made, they saw the order in the computer but didn’t provide any explanation as to why it wasn’t made. Told me that they can have it done by 1pm of that day, but that didn’t work out for us and defied the whole purpose of ordering a week in advance. All good, ended up getting cupcakes in a pinch, but overall not satisfied with the job they had and therefore will curb how many times we do business with them.

Ordered the oreo cake for a birthday and overall it was very disappointing and tasted old. The cake felt like a super market cake, yet somehow worse. Where to begin, aesthetically the cake looks delicious, but sadly that is not the case. The oreos itself tasted a bit old, makes one wonder how old the cake actually is. My biggest con with the cake was the amount of icing. There was almost more icing than there was cake. The actual cake part itself was meh and didn't taste fresh, it was a bit dry. I would have liked it to be denser/moister. If you like a lot of icing then maybe this is the cake for you. After further review it seems that a common complaint at this bakery is cake/pastries tasting old.

This bakery is always my "Go to" place for special occasions. The fruit tarts are perfect for parties. Both my brothers live out of state and can't find the kind of crumb cake and pecan ring that we enjoyed when we were growing up. I make it a point to go to Miller's and send their cakes to them throughout the year. As far as we're concerned, Miller's Bakery has the best crumb cake of any bakery we know. The service is always polite, patient, and extremely helpful.
