Roots Steakhouse

Excellent from start to finish. Black owned restaurant where quality is their standard. Went for an impromptu lunch and I did not regret it. The lobster 🦞 roll, sampler lunch is perfection. I got a salad, French onion soup and half a roll and was pleasantly surprised and pleased. Drinks are great as well. All around 9/10 experience.

All of the food was really outstanding but the service is what put it over the top. We got the porterhouse and a few side dishes and 3 different desserts. All of which were amazing and delicious and perfectly cooked. Our server was Luis I believe. All of the staff upon walking in were so friendly. They were on top of every need and always smiling and super polite. The manager came to check on us as soon as we finished our meal. He also greeted us with the same smile and shared a nice story which related to us. We had a 2 year old in our group and they were so helpful and understanding of his needs as well. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

I came in to Summit New Jersey earlier this afternoon and wandered my way into Roots steakhouse and restaurant. Beautiful facility was what I saw, inviting. I had a couple Bourbons a nice rye and some appetizers that were delicious. Unbelievable friendly staff during times that are sometimes hard to fill. The menu looks incredible and I'm hoping to show up tonight for a full scale dinner with my friends. I can't wait to experience it again. Hats off to a terrific staff.

Went this past weekend for the first time. I will definitely be back. From the service to the food, everything was perfect. The attentiveness of the staff was unsurpassed from other upscale places I have been. The personal touches made it. The food.......steak cooked perfectly. Highly recommend. Thank you to the bartender (Coreal I think her name was) and Louis our waiter......They made it a perfect night

Horrible experience on 2/19/22. We had a reservation at 3:30pm and an older male hostess who looked at us and said “how can I help you?” Which immediately turned us off and made us feel unwelcome. This is a steakhouse not a customer service desk at the mall. Clearly we are looking to patronize so the more appropriate greeting would have been a “Good afternoon” or “do you have a reservation with us today?” We shared that we had a lunch reservation and went instructed to the bar to wait for our table. Once the table was ready, we were walked to the back of the restaurant to a corner table next to the glass wall facing the sidewalk. We shared with the hostess that there was a draft coming in and we would be too cold sitting at that table. For context it had stopped snowing 10 minutes before we entered the restaurant so it was very cold and windy. The hostess shared that there were no other tables he could offer us. We pointed out how we walked past several tables and even had an empty table 2 tables away from the proposed table. He stated that those tables were set for dinner and could not be accommodated. So within this realtively spacious restaurant, there was not one table they could offer us. The hostess went on to share that there was nothing they could do because they had over 200 reservations that today. At that point, we decided that our kind were clearly not welcome in this establishment and it was clear from the second we walked in. Our reservation was not deemed as important as the other 200 and in a town as predominantly white as Summit, it is hard to believe it was not racially motivated.
