What a hidden gem in the middle of Tasmania! Really authentic high class Italian food for very reasonable prices. Delicious pizza, homemade pasta and gelato- was a very lovely dinner. Definitely recommend this place for dinner to everyone who’s staying in Sheffield or even just driving through. Worth it!

When I came to the tiny unsuspecting mural town of Sheffield Tasmania, I didn’t expect to be transported back to northern Italy, and yet Basilico has managed to do just that. Basilico, like the town, is a unsuspecting restaurant attached to the Sheffield motor Inn. It is neither particularly flashy nor fancy, but it’s food manages to be perhaps the most authentic Italian food I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing at an Italian restaurant. The lasagne I was offered reminded me of what my nonna would make. It didn’t have fancy XO sauce or French Riviera truffles, it focused on the basics of good Italian food, fresh wholesome ingredients that compliment each other rather than outplay one another. Don’t go to Basilico expecting a Michelin star experience, it isn’t that, it’s a small family owned restaurant that cooks the food they would love and eat, and that is what makes it special. Basilico is a gem, and I would strongly recommend it to anyone considering a stay in Sheffield.

What an amazing place. I read all of this places reviews and wasn't sure what to expect, but as soon as we sat down it was an excellent experience. The food tastes like it is straight out of Italy, and the drinks were perfect. Some of the best Italian Cuisine we have found so far in Tasmania, and was priced very well. Thank you!

We’ve been living in Sheffield for almost 2 months and I wish I had come to Basílico before I did!!! Best italian I’ve tried so far, both pasta 🍝 and pizza 🍕are freshly made and taste as amazing and delicious as in Italy! Couldn’t thank more to Francesca who received us very happy and excited as new customers. All bad reviews are just lies, not the people nor the food are close to what they’re saying. We’ll be back in no time to have a bit more of everything!!! 😋

My partner and I both had dinner here, and can't speak highly enough of how delicious our meals were. Reading the one star reviews a few people have left, just reminds us that there are still plenty of entitled Karens around that feel a need to complain to make themselves feel important. Seriously this is great food!

A beautiful true Italian restaurant serving fresh made or self preserved everything. My meal of pizza, mushroom risotto with sage pesto, tiramisu and delicious variants of the classic rum ball will not soon be forgotten. The lovely proprietors will tend to your every culinary requirement to guarantee your satisfaction. If you're looking for a little magic and pasta, this is your place.
