The owner is extremely rude and told me to get the f*ck out when I asked if they only took cash payments. I’d rather drink Tim’s garbage coffee than deal with this lunatic

Right. So the owner is an absolute straight shooter who takes zero b.s. If you've never been to Italy, you might not get it. He was not born in Italy, but he’s got the attitude. If you are a pretentious dick, don't expect to receive any tolerance. He is abrasive, sure — but he has a heart of gold. This guy has never been anything but gracious to me and my wife. This is as good as coffee beans get in Vancouver. I say coffee beans, because that's his specialty. He will make whatever coffee drink you like (if you could actually get it in Italy, not at a fancy Canadian coffee shrine), but it's not about that. He is an expert in beans, roasting, what your needs are based on your home setup, etc.If you want true Italian style coffee beans for your home setup, go here. If you want to lounge about and enjoy the espresso bar atmosphere and the company of a very entertaining host, go here.If you want to have your ego massaged and remain in your fluffy little safe place, so somewhere else.Keep up the fantastic work, Arturo!

Hands down the best place to get coffee. The smell of the beans is alluring as soon as you walk in the door.<br/>Love the personality and no bullshit taken attitude. just a treat to have coffee and a chat.<br/>If you do not have a sense of humour, this shop is too cool for you. Thumbs up!

I checked out this place a while back when my home coffee machine was getting repaired. They only had one choice. It was an ok cup of coffee but he charged me $4 and added a whole lot of attitude. Check it out , meet Adolf. Lol you’ll see.<br/> <br/>

In BC, most coffee addicts go to Starbucks for their fix of crappy coffee, and in Ontario, for some insane reason, it would be Timmy Ho's, which has the most vile excuse for coffee that I have ever experienced. In this context, to find an independent, high quality, caffeine pusher in BC is a rare treat, particularly when the proprietor is a very personable, funny, interesting Lebanese dude who just happens to have a low bullshit threshold. This is what years and years of dealing with the general public will do to you if you have any brains at all, and more tolerance than most are granted at birth. In short, the cappuccino I order most mornings is only found better in Italy. To have overly-sensitive entitled little snowflake millennial Richmond twats complain about not having Starbucks options available at a small independent retailer would be funny, if it weren't such typical, not funny west coast bullshit. NO COFFEE FOR YOU!

If you want coffee done right, this is the place.  The owner is one of the most unique people I know.  If you have no sense of humor, and a huge sense of entitlement, go to Starbucks.

Well I finally have a chance to come because of seeing a notary office nearby. But no I didn’t order drink because the perhaps owner is harsh and impatient when I ask if he can offer a cup of sumatra. Since the board shows all that he sells almost all type of coffee beans. He was like he only does expresso and there is no coffee shop that offer that. I named him a few then he said something like: oh perhaps coffee is like religions, people take it differently. Man, I know coffee served at different places are different, but that is the only time I see people showing that sort of attitude to customers. Oh maybe he is racist? It’s just horrible in everyway I think of it.

Best coffee you can get. Really enjoyed the mocha as well. The coffee beans are great, pickup a pound or two. You won't be disappointed. Beans are roasted daily

I have tried coffee all over North America and this is the best !!!   I look forward to my special trip to Viva Java. I recommend you take the time to visit and enjoy a coffee made with absolute care and attention.  Great place to sit on a rainy day. Although it may be hard to find at it to your GPS

This is an awesome Italian cafe that is hidden in Richmond! How come I did not know it earlier?! I thought there was no good coffee shops in Richmond, but I realized this one located at the opposite side of Costco was excellent! This coffee shop is running by an Italian guy. He is doing a one man show running the coffee shop by himself. He roasts coffee beans every morning and makes coffee for his customers with humour. People come here to buy roasted coffee beans. The blue mountain coffee beans are so good that people don't care how much they pay for them. They just pay and buy the good quality of the blue mountain coffee beans. <br/><br/>Anyhow, it was my first time to come here for a "real" coffee in Richmond. This coffee shop has "real" coffee unlike Starbucks and Timmy Hortons. If you know how to drink coffee and what is good coffee, this is the best one I have found in Richmond so far. <br/><br/>I bought a cup of latte. Mama Mia! It was so good! The coffee was in golden colour (showing by the owner of the coffee shop). After adding the milk into the coffee, I had a sip tasting the coffee/latte without sugar (always!), it was so good! The coffee/latte was hotter than usual because the owner knew that the coffee/latte could cool down quickly, so he made extra hot for me. In the end, he added a little bit more of coffee to make the latte a little bit stronger. That tasted SO GOOD!

Across the bridge we find a coffee shop with a personality all its own, or that of its owner. I've followed Viva Java  to three locations over the years and this one defies understanding

Best Coffee. Viva Java makes the best coffee organic, fresh roasted every day. Each cup is individually brewed to order on the spot.<br/><br/><br/>-----18 Aug, 2014-----<br/><br/>What a bunch of balonga. People are strange creatures.<br/><br/>The owner is not a mind reader. If you want strong coffee, ask for a strong coffee. <br/><br/>If you all you have is smaller coins, as the previous poster mentioned, and you're tired of lugging them around, then why off load them on some one else. Go to the bank! Viva Java isn't a bank, it's a coffee shop.<br/><br/>Give respect and you get respect. If you have no patience, then stay away. <br/><br/>I'm a regular customer; been visiting Arturo for over ten years. He's delightful, has a great sense of humor, and serves the best espresso based drinks in the lower mainland. His beans are roasted daily, phenomenal!<br/><br/>If you left, or were thrown out, boohoo. I'm enjoying my latte right now as I write this and it's awesome!

I have been going to viva java coffee shop since 2000. 14 years since buying coffee.. I have tried numerous other roasting coffee shops. But there is no comparison to viva java.. I moved away from Richmond and travel every two weeks to pick up coffee beans..Thoroughly enjoy viva beans..

This guy is an idiot!. Went to buy some beans this morning and I noticed all different regions for the beans listed on the menu board. I asked the owner if he had any 'dark roast' beans that are not bitter. The guy snapped back at me and said there was a Starbucks down the road that had all types of coffees. Then he told me to get out and he would not sell to me. Wow what a douchebag. I am surprised he can still be open and running a viable business if he treats his customers like that.

Amazing coffee, well worth the trip. Just don't order a half caf, extra foam, soy latte and you will be fine. Bring a sense of humour. Seriously the best beans in town!

You wanna stay on this guy's good side. How many guys advertise themselves as Nazis on their own website, and appear on a YouTube channel where they castigate their customers? (Oogle "Coffee Nazi Youtube" if you want to watch a, ummmmm, different viewpoint on customer service.) You think you know coffee? Talk to Arti Hagop -- he's the boss here. He'll tell you what you know! It really is a lot like the "Soup Nazi" episode on Seinfeld.<br/><br/>What people overlook about that episode is that the Soup Nazi made some darn good bowls of chowder. I got a bag of whole beans from the Coffee Nazi for my home espresso machine, and they're darn good. Before bagging you, Arti will quiz you to find out what style you like, what kind of machine you have at home, how you store your beans, etc. He's like a coffee shrink. Then he'll mix you a custom blend from buckets of coffee beans he roasted that morning. You can see the roasting machine right behind him, like an old-fashioned clothes washer on stilts. Only don't be a jerk when you talk to him! And if you don't come back, "Fah!" on you. He'll tell you he's been in business for 25 years and he didn't need your money for all the rest of that time.<br/><br/>The guy also serves up the gamut of coffee-based drinks. I had a cappucino, and it was good and strong. Not as smooth as an Australian flat white though, mate. I hope Arti doesn't read this. Because I'm likely to get an argument next time I go back. And I will go back -- even though Viva Java is hard to find, at the back end of an industrial plaza at the insanely busy intersection of Bridgeport and Great Canadian. I'll go back because the Coffee Nazi is a true wild-man character in a world full of bland Stephen Harper clones.

Fresh roasted organic coffee. I've been going to Viva Java for more than 10 years. The coffee tastes amazing. The owner is a one man show & he works hard to make his business successful. He does speak his mind but is a very kind hearted man. The coffee speaks for itself....full bodied & a taste that is unique & addicting!

One of the best coffee in town. They roast their own coffee in house. Try their 7 bean blend. It'll make you happy for the rest of the day!

I will admit that the coffee at Viva Java is pretty good and I've been there several times, but I made the decision to never return because of the extremely poor customer service. The last time I was there and ordered a cup of coffee, I had pocket full of change (heaven forbid we have Loonies and Twoonies in Canada) and thought I'd lighten my load of some of the smaller coins. The owner started spouting off at me and pushed the smaller coins back across the counter towards me. He grunted something to the effect of he'd rather charge me less than deal with all the coins. I might have paid less for my coffee that day, but I didn't appreciate being yelled at and decided once and for all that I would never return to be treated poorly yet again.

Not a fan. I dont care about the so called quality, there are plenty of other nice coffee shops around. i believe in treating customers with respect. The quotation about "starbucks" really is getting old. The reviewer who used it, is likely the owner or a close relative. The rudeness of the owner is too difficult to forgive. His manners are prehistoric and he should give up living in the past. Sienfeld TV has only reruns. So he should give up with his crude imitations of a Sienfeld character.

No customer service and throwing temper tantrum. I walked in to try a cup of latte from Viva Java but at the end getting booted out for wanting to go to the bathroom while he is making my coffee. He told me to get my coffee, pay and I can go wherever the hell I want to go. I was shocked by his comments. The owner was swearing harshly and acted like he wanted to punch me out. I walked out wondering what I did to make him so furious.

Big Fan!. I see there being 3 tiers of coffee; Starbucks and Waves sit in the middle, Viva Java, JJ, Artigiano, 49th, BATW (?) ... and at the top. They are people who truly care about their coffee. You can pick your favourites amongst those but Arte @ Viva Java will certainly be at the top of most people's list. It is my personal favourite.<br/>All you have to do is drive Hwy 99 near 4rd and you will be captivated by the aroma of his coffee roasting in the morning. Arte is a one man show and not caught up in political correctness ... or bland coffee for that matter. He is bold like his coffee. You owe it to yourself to try his coffee out.

To the doubters.... I've been going to Viva Java daily for two and a half years now, and I have to say that anyone who has a problem with the proprietor is one or both of the following: A) indecisive B) rude. Artie works by himself and works very hard, so why should he have time for someone to hum and haw over something like their choice of bean ? It's not exactly a life-altering decision, people. If you want to get your hands on the best coffee in the Lower Mainland, then the least you can do is not waste the man's time. You want to be self indulgent and expect someone else to suffer through it ? Then go to Starbucks.

Too busy for new customers?. So when I found out there was a custom roaster in Richmond, I was pretty excited. I've always liked coffee, and was very interested in trying some of the beans these guys advertised on their website in quantities of 1/2 lb and 1lb as I've never tried custom roasted beans. The coffee machine at work was broken this morning, so I called up Viva Java to see if I could order half a pound of something to use in my back-up french press I keep at work. The phone rings a few times, then goes to answering machine which explained that they were opened at 7am daily, so I thought I'd just leave a message with my phone number. Before the answering machine finished, someone picked up the phone. I explained to them I was interested in picking up 1/2 lb of beans. When asked what kind, I said I wasn't quite sure and that it was my first time ordering through them and I was hoping for a suggestion. Before I could even ask for a suggestion, the man cut me off and said "Sorry, we only do 5lbs and up" *click* and he hung up the phone.<br/><br/>This is horrible customer service, especially to a first time customer interested in a local business. Why would you list prices specifically for half a pound and a pound of beans on your website, and then tell the customer that you only do 5 lbs and up orders? <br/><br/>0/5
