Metro Bar & Grill

The food is absolutely amazing and the workers are very friendly! I know that many people only review restaurants when they are mad about slow service or some other minor issue, but this place is one of the few restaurants that really blew my mind in terms of food quality/taste/menu options. I’ll be satisfied and say the food is “good” at many restaurants but my first meal here included a few things that were the “best I’ve ever had,” including the collard greens. It was slow the first night I came in and the bartender was nice enough to talk to my party for quite some time and was very personable. I would give him a shout out on here personally but that was six months ago and admittedly I have forgotten his name, but the customer service end was great as well. I’m not a major foodie or “semi-pro” restaurant reviewer, but Metro really stands above other experiences in the area. Visually, it has cool, but fairly common, “local neighborhood restaurant and bar” vibe to it but in my experience there was nothing “common” about the food here. So I count myself lucky to live nearby.

I had been at a Classical RVA concert with a friend and we were looking for a place we hadn't dined at before and was open late on a Sunday night. A Google search lead us to Metro Bar and Grill. What a great find! A great experience! The food was amazing and unexpected. Flavor combinations leaving us wanting more. Pub food elevated to the art of good eating. Greg, our server and manager, couldn't have been more friendly, accommodating, or caring for the customer. A terrific place that also serves weekend brunch and will be my choice for my next brunch! Add the Metro to your new must try places to dine and brunch!

Huge sandwiches and burgers, served warm! Comfortable pub feel with a great beer selection. Love the decor, especially the tin ceiling. Happy hour specials include 2 dollar bottles of beer. Mac and cheese sandwich with bacon was insanely awesome. Only complaint is that they serve shoestring French fries. Then again, you don't really have room for a lot of fries.

The night I went, the special was half off small plates. My plan was cheeseburger and fries, so instead I got Metro style sliders, poutine and fried mozzarella just because. The sliders were tasty, with cheese and grilled onions on brioche rolls. I don't know if the poutine was authentic but it tasted good as well, although it could have spent a little more time heating as some of the cheese curds were still cold. The fried mozzarella balls were not the frozen cheese sticks I expected, which was nice, but the recipe and/or process needs some tweaks. While the flavor was good the breading was very thin and they managed to be soggy, which I didn't expect. The Metro is a typical Fan bar with better than average food. It gets very loud inside as the evening progresses.
