Vietastic

I gave Vietastic a go today because my workmate has been hyping it up. I ordered a Pho Dac Biet just to sample a dish that is crucial for Vietnamese restaurants in Australia. It arrived in a relatively small bowl for $14, the broth is rich and has a depth of flavour that requires no augmentation with sauces. The highlights were the tripe that was nice and crunchy and their very thinly sliced rings of onion. The letdown for me was the quantity of meat in general, the beef ball was quartered, the belly meat was also too lean (with no attached fat). The bean sprouts/basil/chillies that came along with the dish were quite compact as well, and the chillies are not hot at all so they ended up tasting like raw capsicum. The overall impression for me is that the dish is competent but have a lot of room to improve for the price they are charging. One thing that a lot of Vietnamese places forget to do is try your chillies before serving them. If they are not hot, they being a different flavour to the palette and is not as pleasant to consume.
