Great spot to casually kickback. Known for their sausage and damn good drink selection. Food: got the good ol beef Frank with some basic add-ons. They make it easy to customize your eats here. Vegan and vegetarian options for sausages and also for sides. Late night options. That’s why we ended up here. Not the cheapest, but it’s fair. Really good specials though! Atmosphere: cool vibe here. Sprawling long bar. 70s & 80s shows playing on TVs overhead. Lowkey dining room. Open kitchen for the observers. Service: Cara was dope! Super cool bartender. She’s definitely got us hyped up to come back.

Great place to take visitors for its inventive and well-executed menu. There's something for just about everyone here and while the menu items are well-crafted and made with quality ingredients, the place doesn't take itself too seriously in a way that would detract from the general FUN of the atmosphere. Always a good place to visit. Loud but not deafening, vibrant but not obnoxious, occasionally hard to read the menu for the dimness but it's a part of the ambiance. Great place. It used to be that some of the sausages were so large that with toppings you almost had to unhinge your jaw like a snake to consume them, but they rolled back some of the sizing to a reasonable margin-- not enough to make you feel like you're getting cheated with less product, but enough to make the food item more holdable and eatable, the best of both worlds.

We stopped in here to grab a drink while waiting for our table at Hungry Sumo next door. After glancing at the menu, my husband suggested we go back to The Vanguard to try some of their offerings since so much looked good. Still, this was a great place for our party of 6 to relax and start the evening. There are lots of options here, drinkwise, with a large assortment of beers. Since we weren't there to eat, we ordered our drinks at the bar. This is not a big space, but the long bar and larger tables make it a nice spot for groups.

I love Vanguard! Every time we come here, the food is consistently great! We a brought another couple along with us and pretty much ordered majority of the homemade sausages they have. First of all, there selection of beers on tap is wonderful. Not many places have Three Floyd's Zombie Dust on tap But they have a killer whiskey collection. Everything from bourbons to great Japanese whiskeys. The true winners in my opinion was the Killer Khan and the Thai Breaker. Both were awesome. Their chili-cheese fries are just nuts and have a wonderful pretzel. I try to come back as often as I can when we come up to Milwaukee. Thank you for being consistently great!
