Chilli Masala

We've been to Aroma of India in Sturt Street a number of times recently. Recommend eating in. We like the Eggplant Masala, Biryani and Palak Paneer and the Naan has always been soft, fresh and tasty. Dishes have been consistently good, flavours are balanced and delicious. The butter chicken is pretty good too!

Went there after very long time. I am very pleased with the customer service and how the staff made me feel very special, it made my day. No words to the man who made me feel so special. Talking about food, I am not very keen to the spices, normally when I order mild curry in other restaurants, it would be spicy but here the curry was perfect as per my taste. Got a complimentary drink as well from the staff. Thank you so much . Definitely will visit next time and this restaurant will be the first choice to go in.

Supremely disappointed. This has been our go to Indian restaurant in Ballarat for 3 years, since we moved from Melbourne. We would rave about the food to our friends, declaring it to be better than anything we'd ever had in Melbourne. We've given it two chances before posting this review. All the flavours that made this place brilliant have been lost. The food is ok (hence two stars) but it is no longer anything close to a stand out. The wait times were always a bit lengthy, but you knew it was worth the wait. That's no longer the case. The food always takes longer than quoted, the flavour is run-of-the-mill, and the orders have been wrong the past two times we've tried to give the benefit of the doubt. I highly recommend the new owners contact the old ones, and have a conversation. Probably won't be back, and pretty sad about that.

Aroma of India has been our favourite place to go for Indian in Ballarat for years. Good value and service. However, I really wish they would not have the over powering and highly scented incense sticks burning when people are eating in which has been an added thing to their restaurant in recent months. As an Asthma sufferer it has triggered off an attack the last two visits until me realising after last night's visit it's their insence that set my asthma attacks off. We would still like to enjoy dining in Aroma, but unfortunately wont be able to continue doing so if they have the overwhelming strong perfume/insence in their restaurant.

The decor is a little plain and the waiter (assumedly the owner) appears slightly rushed but don't let these dissuade you from a great little Indian restaurant. I opted for the onion bhaji to start, followed by the chicken tikka masala accompanied by garlic naan, and mango lassi to drink. The entree came out reasonably quick, though oddly I did not receive my lassi (despite a tray of them facing me in the fridge) until my main had arrived. The bhaji was a tiny bit overcooked but not burnt and was enjoyable. 5 pieces were more than I was expecting and I'd suggest this as a shared entree rather than for one. The Tikka was fantastic, spiced well, the chicken juicy and the naan hot and fresh, with delightful little chunks of garlic among the lavish spread of butter. Would certainly be heading back!
