Cafe Descanso

If you want to have a great lunch at Descanso, definitely try the food @The Kitchen. I eat there all the time. The food is fresh and made with quality ingredients. I noticed that cleanliness & covid safety is a primary concern. I saw that all the people working in the kitchen wore masks. The menu has a large variety of food choices & they offer a number of drinks. There's also a children's menu. You can't go wrong eating at The Kitchen at Descanso.

WARNING: Do not order the hibiscus lemonade! We purchased 2 of them and ended up with a mouthful of dirt/sand and ingesting who knows what other contaminants were in the drink. Went back to tell them and the lady acted weird by filling up a cup for herself, drinking it, and stating “I don’t know what you’re talking about it’s delicious.” She gave us another cup of hibiscus lemonade to replace our drinks but it again had a ton of debris in it, which I again pointed out. She just said, “well, this is our hibiscus lemonade”.. we talked to the manager and got our money back. I ordered coffee and it was equally as bad! Watered down and the milk separated into chunks that floated to the top of the coffee. Not sure if they infuse the drink with hibiscus grown from their very own garden but they need to be more conscious about proper cleaning/filtering/brewing techniques otherwise guests may get really sick from what they are serving..

Such a disappointing lack of effort. Ordered a "grilled' sandwich. When it came, the bread looked like it had been on the grill for about 5 seconds (basically just bread; nothing grilled about it), the cheese hadn't melted at all and the other ingredients were cold. I'd've taken it back, but I was hungry and just wanted to go home. I wouldn't even waste my time with a review - but the lack of effort was so appalling, and at almost $20 (with tax) it just seemed... noteworthy.
