Smoke And Shine

Oh so Yummy... I give it 4-1/2 Stars, but it doesn't have a half option. It would be 5 stars but you can't have true southern BBQ without something sweet. It wouldn't take much to add true sweet tea to the menu (brewed tea is just not the same) I would turn this into a 5 star review in a heartbeat. The eight of us went there last night for dinner. We were celebrating my Hubby's 50th birthday and our brothers 51th birthday. The wait staff was nice and the food was really good. The picture in my review is of the Smoke & Shine burger with jalapeno hush puppies, three of us ordered that burger but two with fries. Also at the table one ordered the sauteed brisket burger with hush puppies, another ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs with coleslaw and hush puppies and the last two ordered triple meat combo with a 1/2 rack and two briskets to share. We all tried everything at the table even my 9 month old Grandson enjoyed some. Hands down this BBQ is good, REALLY GOOD!!! Now don't get me wrong I know BBQ, I spent years enjoying BBQ made by a childhood friend who was from NC and going to Dixie's when I was missing his food but Smoke & Shine is my new favorite. The meat is tender and has great flavor, it's not soaked in sauce because it doesn't need it. Just enough to get you coming back. It was a perfect evening but got me craving something lemon or a lil slice of sweet potato pie. A TRUE MUST GO, I'm already planning my next visit.

Feel bad to rate this place 3/5 but I can't help it. My husband and I came here on the second night of their soft opening with the most excitement from all of the good words we saw online and felt just ok after walking out of the door. Pros: - Good ambience and nice interior. The place is HUGE.There's plenty of seatings for your choices as a couple, single, family or groups. The space between tables are well arranged, not too close so it provides you with enough privacy. There're board games and a stage for live music. The place actually reminds me of The Lime but much nicer. - Very good service: the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. They even asked for our feedbacks about the food. - WIDE selection of whiskies. They do have a full bar with beers on tap also. The beers are well priced and I hope they will bring more of other local beers on tap soon. - Food: the Mac&cheese was so tasty, I found this is the first place that cooked the pasta right. There are 3 different sauces provided and their house sauce was so good, it's our fav. The flavor of the pork ribs were on point. I seldom see a BBQ place made the Texas taste right but this place nailed it. No wonder others love it here Cons: these are reasons why I couldn't give this place more than 3/5 - BBQ: even though the flavor was good it cannot save the dry meat. Probably we were there for a wrong day because I saw many good reviews about the meat.but on that day, our pork ribs were not cooked long enough so the meat was not tender, it required at least 1 more hr to cook. The brisket was super dry, you can see this in the photo. My guess is they cut them all way too early and served them when ordered so the meat was dried out. - Side dishes: the shrimp and grits didn't taste right. It didn't have enough the gravy and we didn't enjoy the red bell peppers in it. It would be ok if they named it such as house or Texas style shrimp & grits with the info about the bell pepper. The corn bread tasted good but it was saved dead cold. I think it would be so nice and actually very easy to have it warm up a bit before serving to customers - Drinks: even tho they have a big selection of whiskies and we are fan of whiskies but we didn't have any while we were there. The reason is they are very overpriced. They are at least 20-30% more expensive than other places in downtowns, even in downtown Seattle. You can look at the drink menu and make the comparison yourself. And what's funny is there's a very friendly staff tried to recommend us a bourbon and he was so surprised himself when he saw the price himself. Overall, the quality doesnt match up with the price in my opinion. This is an ok place to hang out with friends bc they have BBQ and drinks but I don't think we want to come back

A nice place. Clean. But a little expensive, for what you get. Portion sizes are small and quite expensive. Though that could be an optical illusion, as it is served on an aluminum sheet pan. The food service isn't as good as a normal restaurant. I went for lunch at ~11:30am, the place was dead. I was a bit perplexed at how service could be bad, when it was that slow and there were 3 people working. The decor is nice. They have some bar games like darts and ski-ball. If you are looking for good BBQ, this is probably your best bet in the area. I will likely go again for lunch, the next time I'm in the mood for BBQ. (once I save up enough)

The food is delicious! I had short ribs and the meat was cooked perfectly. I appreciated that we had a choice of sauces to either smother the meat or apply sparingly to taste. We tried different sides, which we also thought were wonderfully prepared. The BBQ beans are a bit spicey, but the coleslaw cools off your tongue nicely. The cornbread was delicious with the honey butter, and the Mac & Cheese was great too! I don't know if this will happen every weekend, but we went on a Saturday night and got a nice surprise treat of a live "roadhouse type" band, which started playing at 8PM. That was fun! The restaurant itself has a nice country western bar motif. At least a dozen TV's were hung around the place, so I imagine this might be a good place to watch the Seahawks or Mariners play. There were also three dart game machines and even a skee ball machine. My only complaint was that all this goodness doesn't come cheap, but I didnt mind so much because we got to hear the live music and also the food was worth it.

Let me just start with I absolutely loved the food! My only complaint, which I think is a easy fix would be the service. I felt neglected in between ordering drinks and waiting 20min for my food, but Oh boy was the food worth the wait. I got the sautéed brisket sandwich with Fries, shrimp and grits and sides of hush puppies and chili. All the food was great and mouth and tummy joy! Give this BBQ a try!

Bbq sauces, pulled pork, Mac n cheese, and hush puppies were good. I gave them 4 stars because they served us fat with some brisket attached, but they saw me picking meat out of the fat and brought out two smaller complimentary pieces (they were good). If you go there for brisket, be sure to tell them what kind of brisket you like, otherwise you might end up with what we got :P
