India Gate

This is one of my favorite Indian lunch spots. The restaurant is a small space, roughly 12 tables, so you need to get there early to grab a spot. To my dismay, I find so many Indian restaurants tame down the spices in their buffet so they don't offend anyone, but that is not the case here. The buffet items have a lovely level of heat and flavor (I am sure they could be hotter, but what they do is good). Chai tea is included with the buffet, along with Naan, and a traditional Indian dessert (usually Gulab Jamun). The service was friendly and very attentive at clearing buffet plates. Watch out, they are closed between lunch and dinner (2:30-5:30). The lunch buffet is $9.99 M-F & $11.99 Sat & Sun.

This restaurant recently opened in the place where 'Curries and Chutneys' use to be. Good South Indian food ( yes- there are several cuisines within India, with broad distinctions of the North and the South) in Carmel/NW Indy/Zionsville area. I tried the lunch buffet. The Chicken Biryani and Goat Curry was flavorful. They had Sambar ( lentil soup) channa Chole ( chick peas in sauce), Chicken curry, tandoori chicken , Saag Panner (Creamy Spinach with cubed cottage cheese)+ a few other dishes. Freshly made small sized Dosa's ( crispy crepes) with potato masala was part of the buffet. Overall- a good meal for $9.{ I am told dinner Buffet costs around $11.] They have ala carte menu available as well. I may get some dishes to go the next time I am at Costco.
