Taproot Restaurant

I would normally give Taproot a much higher rating but all I can honestly give is a 2.0-2.5 rating after last night's dining experience. Our reservation was at 7:30 and our food did not come out until 9:00. We had a party of 8 (celebrating several birthdays). Most of us ordered twice baked potatoes - they later came out to tell us they were out (okay, that happens). We ordered garlic mashed potatoes instead. When our food finally came out some of us had mashed potatoes and some of us did not (they ran out of those as well). Our food was barely warm (the mashed potatoes were cold). I ordered the truffle filet medium-rare and it was cooked medium-well. All of our meat was overcooked except for one steak (he likes his well done). The drinks were good, the cheese curds & crab dip apps were yummy, and the bread is always delicious. Taproot has a nice atmosphere. We have been many times but last night was sub par. The manager came out to apologize and some of our meals were taken off (the meals we didn't eat). We will go back but it won't be for a long time. I hope whatever happened was just a bad night and they can fix it.

We were told that they were “overbooked” because of graduation so they wouldn’t sit us, but there were many tables available, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. We then get to the bar and were told by Kaitlyn at the bar that they did not serve food at the bar, so we order drinks, and half way through a guest that sat next to us moments after we sat at the bar gets her Ceaser salad. I call Kaitlyn over to ask why this guest was served food at the bar after she said they don’t serve food and she replied “she has been here a long time and ordered food” (when we knew that’s not the case) Kaitlyn also said she only got a Ceaser salad but later this guest received her steak and sides. By this time had been talking to the guest and she and I also questioned why they wouldn’t serve our party food at the bar, she was confused since she arrived after us since. Just plain rude..

Food is ALWAYS absolutely delicious, fresh, and different. Try the french onion soup, fish, filet, roasted cauliflower, lobster tacos with homemade slaw( to die for), pork chop. Everything I have eaten so far has been AMAZING!!! Servers aren't the greatest. I shouldn't have to ask for a refill on a drink, I would like them to ask how everything is after a couple bites of food, and to check again towards end of meal. I am a server and those two things are top priority at my job. These have all been times where the servers were NOT busy. Will return for both lunch and dinner!! UPDATE Aug.2, 2018: Jim has been our server, he is supurb!!! He remembers what we ordered last time, keeps drinks filled, and checks at appropriate times!! We will ask for him now anytime we go! Food continues to be delicious and consistant!!!
