Shaffer's

The service was great. The food is okay. I went up to the register to pay the check and there's a sign up there that says if you pay with a credit card there's a surcharge fee if you use a debit card or pay with cash there's no fee. I paid with a debit card and when she gave me the receipt to sign there was a $1.35 surcharge fee. I asked why I was being charged the fee and she said that the owner will not allow her to give the keypad to the customer so that they can put their debit card number in there, so your debit card is being charged as a credit card. I pointed out what the sign says and I said you are literally lying to your customers. Apparently the owner does not know that she is not allowed to charge a surcharge fee using a credit card. I told the waitress that we will not be coming back to the restaurant ever again.

Great place for early morning breakfast! They are very friendly, fast refilling your coffee cup and the food is exactly what you would expect at a local family restaurant. The early crowd is mostly older folks and there is a short concrete ramp at the entrance for easy access. You will not find friendlier people anywhere around!

I ordered a beef Manhattan blue plate special, what I got was a beef Manhattan with curdled gravy that tasted like it came from a grease trap. It was gross looking and tasting. After two bites I pushed it aside because I knew it would make me sick if I tried to eat more. Our waitress was adorable and really smooth things over. She went back to the kitchen and brought me out a grilled cheese and ham that was really good. I was a little taken aback when she said "I felt bad putting that down in front of you" referring to the beef Manhattan. To top things off I still got charged for the beef Manhattan. It's going to be a long while before I go back

Jan & Heather are by far my favorite waitresses of any place I have visited. Shaffer's cooks pay attention to details & get our orders right every time. We always leave feeling full & content. I got the farmers omelet & John order a half order of biscuits & gravy, 2 eggs over medium, cornbeef & hash and crispy bacon. Coffee for both of us & like always the food & service was AWESOME! Shaffer's rocks because the staff cares. Love ya Jan & Heather!
