I'm a downtown Berkeley lunch person. If you're thinking of eating here for dinner, my review may not apply to you and your experience.
This place does not compete with all of the other lunch places that are available in the area. At this hour many of us want to get in and get out. Sometimes we will sit down and get served, but Le Regal isn't prepared for that.
Their staff is really rushed and somewhat aggressive. For an area with a huge lunch rush, I actually understand this. But for a place that makes me sit down (and expects gratuity) I expect a better level of service.
On the menu it looks like the prices rival other things in the area. But it's an illusion because of the gratuity.
All of that being said the food is okay.

the vegetable noodle soup (with chicken broth) was out of this world. you can choose whether you want chicken or vegetable broth. fresh, perfectly cooked vegetables, noodles al dente. the condiments were fresh, too. just don't forget to squeeze lime juice into the soup, as it really brings out the flavor.
portions are generous, 2 meals for me and my friend had plently left over.

One of my favorite restaurants in Berkeley. The food is delicious, the restaurant is quiet, and the (minimal) staff is friendly.
