Old Homestead Steakhouse in NYC offers a delightful experience with its inviting ambience, impeccable service, and delectable food. The atmosphere exudes classic charm, creating a perfect setting for a memorable dining experience. The attentive staff adds to the overall positive impression, ensuring guests feel well taken care of throughout their visit. The menu boasts a selection of high-quality steaks, cooked to perfection, catering to discerning palates. However, it's worth noting that the price point is on the higher side, reflecting the premium quality of both the ingredients and the dining experience. If you're willing to indulge in a lavish steakhouse experience, Old Homestead delivers on all fronts, making it a noteworthy choice for special occasions.

Very poor selection of champagne by the glass or half bottles. Proseco is not champagne. The chopped salad was perfect. Nicely tossed with dressing not drowned! Dry Aged sirloin for two was exceptional! Perfectly prepared. However, we ordered the sauce trio and they arrived cold as did the hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were "refrigerator" cold on the inside. Key Lime pie was excellent.

This place is a classic! Too bad I waited so long to come here. Food was excellent and considering prices today, it was fair for what you get. Sat in the library room which was nice and quiet until it fills up but it was still pleasant. I assume it's better upstairs than downstairs. I'll definitely go back.

This was an amazing dining experience from start to finish. We started with some raw oysters which were so fresh and delicious. Our steaks were perfectly seared on the outside, seasoned beautifully and cooked exactly as we requested them, quite rare. The meat was so tender you barely had to cut it or chew it. We shared an order of truffle mac and cheese which was heavenly!! The meal was rounded out with a bottle of Chianti. The service was fabulous.

We just happened upon Old Homestead after getting into town and what a great surprise to find such a gem! The ambiance is just perfect for a bustling place and the waitstaff are just wonderful. George took care of us this evening and the recommendations and execution of the overall meal was impeccable. Everything on our plates just kept getting more delicious as we ate. We had the colossal shrimp to start and 4 apiece was too much but we made it through. My wife had the filet and lobster tale and I had the Barrel Cut Filet which were two of the best on the menu. Cremé brûlée and espresso for dessert capped off the meal perfectly. Would highly recommend Old Homestead Steakhouse to anyone!

A delicious bite of history. Good wine selections, outstanding french onion soup. My ribeye was perfectly cooked, went nicely with a baked potato and asparagus with hollandaise, and as full as I was, I was sad my steak was gone when i finished gnawing on the bone.

Our friends had recommended Old Homestead and we were not disappointed. Excellent steaks and superb cocktails- the best we have had in a long time. I had the ribeye and wife the filet- so good. Excellent service. Recommend reservation- it was packed on Saturday night. 😋😋

I was there to try the famous Gotham (pictures) on this very traditional / historical Steakhouse. I had the feeling that it took to long for the meat to come. Also felt that there was not enough salt, and after the 1st bites I had the impression it was over cooked. Digging a little deeper into the meat I found the particular part of the beef that was an absolute heaven. Closed my eyes to absolve the perfect combination of the char, the juices, the fat, and that mouthful was worth the whole experience. That spiritual experience made me reflect that the meet came on the right and proper time for a busy day, and necessary time to cook. Only the outer part of the mead was "overcooked" natural for the way it is prepared, nothing wrong there. also there was no problem with salt, its that I'm used to Brazilian meads, who have more salt. Yes, it is expensive. But it is worth it to go!

This place is so consistently good. Definitely one of the best steakhouses in the city. And do not skip the crab cake or burger. Soooo juicy and tender.

Best steak we had in NY. The colossal shrimp to start was delicious, we shared a tomahawk steak between 3 (us being Brits so it was enough for 3!), and shared Mac and cheese, greens and fries on the side. Our bottle of red was also delicious - will be back when I’m next in NYC!

Dinner was delicious, the steak was cooked perfectly, the asparagus was still firm but without any stringy parts and the mashed potatoes were beautifully whipped. The creme brulee was perfect.

My wife and I went here for dinner yesterday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We’ve been before and really enjoyed the experience. This time was no different. The food was amazing and the staff was very attentive. We particularly enjoyed the yellowfin tuna sashimi, filet mignon with applewood smoked bacon, Mac and cheese with lobster, Old Homestead Martini, and crème brûlée. And we’re already looking forward to doing this again next year.

Very good food and service. We had cosmopolitans and cherry temples for drinks. To eat, we had the giant shrimp, baked clams, and sashimi. We also had a ribeye and a dry aged rib steak for two. For dessert we had the crème brûlée, sunday, and chocolate cake. Everything was excellent. I feel the chocolate cake could have used a little ice cream on the side. But it was all fantastic.

Hope everyone who celebrated had a most magical Christmas. Mine was just great and I'm not quite ready for the good times to end so I'm extending the holiday through this week and enjoying it all just a little while longer. In the meantime, entertainment artists from Korea's King Kong management agency recently got together to shoot this festive pictorial for High Cut magazine. That's some pretty people in elegant party wear. Enjoy your last week of 2011 and I will try to catch up with you all soon!

Old Homestead does a good work with the specifications of the steakhouse, including its own symbol and personality. The sirloin was professional perfectly and prepared perfectly. The Kobe beef burger was large and very excellent, and not overly rich.

i've been there twice, and i've been two more posh steakhouses in NYC. I really liked this one: The price is quite expansive honestly, so be ready to pay a bit a lot. But if you have at least 100-110 bucks per person to spend for a unique dinner experience, just go there and ask the waiter to help you order. The rest is happiness.

It's one of oldest and popular steak house in ny . Could wait even if u have reservations. It's located in meat packing district., Was in New York City and wanted to eat Kobe beef burger since they were one one of the first one to have it in there menu before it was popular . It's $41 but worth every penny . Being from India beef is not available most cities and if available it buffalo meat.

Looking at the quick snapshot I took of the sign, I notice things that I hadn’t noticed prior to the meal (nor when I’d passed it a few times, driving by). The slight dinginess to the sign, and the almost tangible tackiness it hinted awaited us inside… but alas, it was raining, I was running late, so I just lifted the camera, pressed the button, and ran inside.

Good - but not great. I recently went to the Old Homestead Steak House for dinner with a friend. We did not have a reservation and were seated upstairs in the back room. Our table was acceptable, but there were certainly nicer ones available which were not reserved. The table next to us was literally 12 inches away so it was not extremely private.

I digress. Cocktails and wine were up to par, however the service was mediocre at best. We had to pour our own wine on several occasions, which never sits well with me, especially at this price point. I am not from NYC, however, I found it extremely odd that our wine was not decanted. I have been in the restaurant industry for over 15 years and would never bring a bottle of wine at the price we ordered to a table without decanting it. I was enjoying my cocktail when the wine arrived and the server actually asked if she should pour my wine. If you are not decanting it, then yes - the wine absolutely needed to breathe.

For appetizer, we shared Mozzarella Di Bufala & Tomato. This was quite fresh and tasteful. The tomatoes were ripened to perfection and it a generous portion.

For dinner, we each had a filet. Mine was cooked appropriately; blue, however, the second steak was ordered medium rare and was certainly on the rare side. This type of error should not occur at a restaurant of this standard.

Overall a good experience, but more privacy and more attentive and experienced staff in the fine dining industry would make a world of difference.

Satisfying. Grade: B+

Old Homestead does a good job with the standards of the steakhouse, adding its own mark and identity. The sirloin was seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly. The Kobe beef burger was huge and very good, and not overly rich. The creamed spinach was very flavorful but bit rich, so I couldn't enjoy as much as I'd wanted. Old Homestead's hash brown was crispy but not dripping with butter - excellent. As for seafood dishes, their shrimp stuffed with crabmeat was wonderful, and the sea bass was beautifully prepared, seared nicely and not at all dry. All in all, a wonderful meal.

Awesome!!. I ordered the 32 ounce Gotham Rib Steak on the bone. It was cooked perfectly to medium rare. One word, it was perfect! The sides of creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes were awesome. If you're looking to cap the meal off with a great wine, order the 2008 Sterling SVL. It's Massive! For a finisher try the Tokaji. It's one of the best desert wines out there. 96/100.

Popular...maybe TOO popular!. My son always likes to visit a steak restaurant when we visit New York. This trip he picked the Homestead in the Meat Packing District.

First off I love driving up to the Homestead they have a huge cow as a sign and the outside says two things to you - history and meat!

We had a 7:30pm reservation on a Saturday night and walking in you could barely get in the door. The bar area was wall to wall to wall people. You have squeeze in to make it to the hostess stand which was half way through the room. I will say the host was very friendly and efficient.

We had to wait 40 minutes past our reservation time to get a table and we had to stand that entire time as they don't have anywhere to sit while waiting for a table.

Finally we were taken to a table upstairs. The tables are close together and packed, the restaurant is very noisy.

My food was good. I had a bone in filet and it was very good. It was cooked perfectly.

The service was good, but I would not call it overly friendly.

The real kicker was between our dinner and dessert we were asked to change tables. They wanted our table to push together with another table for a large party. I have never been asked by the restaurant to change tables in a middle of a meal. I was very surprised!

I like popular, but this place may be a little too popular for it's own good. It affected the service and the experience.

Burger Diamond Lunch $22!. I had the Burger Diamond Lunch Special for $22 and it was fantastic! It includes a Caesar Salad (very nice), Tater Tots (delicious), 3 Fabulous Burgers (Kobe, Filet Mignon and Sirloin) each with a different gourmet topping and a choice of wine or beer. I picked a Chardonnay which was very nice. The staff was friendly and courteous. This is my new favorite place to lunch!! And, I love the neighborhood. Lots of fun things to do. Try it!!

Quick, quick service. In and out in 1 hour and didn't feel rushed. Enormous steaks. Prime rib is enough to feed 3 people. All steaks needed salt. Even if you don't use catchup, try the house catchup -- it's got some heat and lots of flavor. Very, very noisy.

Untrustworthy. Been several times and the steak is amazing. BUT, on our last visit on New Years Eve, the restaurant seemed to be running a scam with regards to its wine list. We ordered a $44 bottle from the menu with the sommelier. When we received the bill, the same wine came out to $62. When I asked our waiter about it, he said it was a computer issue and corrected the mistake. But it was New Years and I doubt most people would pay close enough attention to the bill to catch it. The service was also exceptionally bad (although most of the staff was simply standing around, we had to ask repeatedly for bread and drink refills). I love the steak here, but I'm not sure I would go back after this very bad experience.

OverPriced!. The service was horrible. First time in New York and i wanted to try a real Kobe beef burger, too bad real Kobe beef isnt sold in the US anymore. The burger was over priced and wasnt all that great. Should have gone to Carls Jr. for a 6 dollar burger instead (If NY had any).

Good and Plenty, overpriced that is.. I've been to most of the major steakhouses in the city, Brooklyn, Queens... etc and the homestead is a nice place for steak, but I think it's overpriced. They charge you wayyy to much for wayyyy to little. There are plenty of steakhouses that are much cheaper in the city if your looking for a great steak.

You can do much better for less.... I knew something was amiss when the most exotic domestic beer on the list was Coors Light. In a country blessed with a fantastic array of micro-brews, this is nothing short of a travesty. So a selection from the fairly limited wine list was the go, and it was not a bad drop all things considered.

The ladies in our party were a bit overwhelmed by the size of the steaks on the menu, this is certainly not an eatery for the faint of heart. I selected the Tuna Sashimi to start, followed by the 34oz Rib Eye (yup, nearly a Kilo). The Tuna was great, though more pepper seared than sashimi, and the steak was perfectly cooked, if lacking slightly in fat.

It was the service that really let the place down. One main course arrived a full 17 minutes after the rest had been delivered and the waiter had disappeared without a trace. I understand that mistakes happen, but when they do it's better to fess up, apologise and explain the dish is on the way, not just disappear leaving the rest of us wondering whether or not we should start eating. Not even a free coffee was offered by way of compensation, disappointing given this place charges top dollar.

Similarly, they lost points on the basics, plates were removed before all diners were finished and not once were our wine glasses refilled, it felt more amateur cafe than fine diner.

We tipped because we had to, certainly not because we wanted to. Don't be suckered in by the hype, NYC has many better options available.

Overpriced / Tenderized. Overpriced for what they serve. Who needs to tenderize a rib eye? The service was good considering the volume of customers our server had to handle. The appetizer of east/west coast oysters and king crab was so-so, the west coast oysters were miniscule. If the meat inside the oyster does not fill up a small oyster fork the kitchen should replace it with a more sizeable oyster, especially if one is paying $4 per piece. The king crab was served cold and didn't have much flavor. The entree arrived and I had to send it back once because the rib-eye was overdone. The next time it was done perfectly but when meat crumbles under your knife you know tenderizer had something to do with it. I've made better steaks for under $10 on my Weber. Buyers remorse - yes but only because the quality was way below my expectations.

Garlic Bread. I don't think this place is worth how expensive it is BUT if you go here you absolutely must without a doubt order the garlic bread.
