Step Brothers Lounge

The thing with this establishment is that there is absolutely no consistency. Zero. We began to frequent Step Brothers last summer and were initially blown away with the atmosphere. It was and still is very clean and well lit, no smoking, and the food isn't bad. But I don't go to a bar to eat, I go there to drink AND enjoy the atmosphere, food, etc. A bar is entirely dependent on having good, quality-consistent drinks that don't vary from bartender to bartender. There is a "bartender" there whose name I don't recall. Blonde female. The past few times we've gone she's been our "bartender" and she alone has ruined this place for us. The last time I got served an Old Fashioned...MADE WITH ORANGE JUICE. What? I couldn't even drink it. I went to the bathroom and dumped it. This coupled with the fact that we waited over 15 minutes to be served an "Old Fashioned" and a simple pint of Blue Moon spoke volumes to us. We were there about 20 minutes total and she refused payment because she knew how terrible she was. Oh, and we ordered cheese sticks that we never got. It was a good run, Step Brothers. But we're done here. What a shame.

I had a very pleasant evening there a couple of weeks ago. Very friendly crowd, and very pleasant bar tender (bar maid). I had a good beer that was new to me, Yuengling Black and Tan Dark-pBrewed Porter & Premium Beer. I am especially fond of Porter, so I was very happy that the barkeep could serve it to me just the way I like it, even though it took some extra effort on her part. Although they do not have many of the cocktails I like, such as the Sazerac, Old Fashioneds, and Scotch highballs of my youth, I was thrilled to have Porter, one of my favorite European beers. Grade: B+ for atmosphere and Porter. I would have given a higher score if they had an imported sweet vermouth to go with the dry one they have in stock in order to make a half and half.
