First time going to Roots Cafe and we are hooked! There was so many options it took a while to decide. From inexpensive breakfast and lunch sandwiches to well-crafted entrees, it is definitely well worth it! The service makes you feel at home, and the staff are very welcoming and offer assistance whenever needed. Their positive attitude definitely makes you feel like a valued customer. :)
We ordered: The Italian Skillet, Night & Day French Toast, Chicken Roma, Smoked Salmon Benedict, and Short Rib Benedict

I'll start with the positives. The dishes we had were good and waitress was friendly. The negatives. They were out of multiple items, had to wait for them to brew coffee both for first round and refills, and all bathrooms were out of order. Felt like a place on the verge of going out of business. Hope we just caught them on a bad day.
Update: after posting the above review, I received a very polite message from the owner. I'll be watching for new reviews and leaning toward giving Roots another try.

So, I really wanted to give this place a good rating as my expectations were leaning more towards a positive experience, however, that was not entirely the case. The outside of this restaurant is deceptively offputting and the interior is trendy and elegant, so that's the first hurdle. Once my companion and I made it inside we discovered we were literally the only people there. My first thought; we know we'll at least have great service. Nope. The server did not seem well versed or experienced which are things that can be forgiven with a little extra effort to ensure customers are enjoying their meal. After placing a drink order for coffee, waters, and a kale tonic, we waited and watched the server bag up to-go orders while he prepped our drink tray with the requisite items for coffee and drinks. Condiments, including creamer, have to be poured into these little metal cups and the process to prepare and deliver drinks is overly complicated and somewhat clumsy in an attempt to provide a personalized and seemingly exclusive dining experience- which completely missed the mark. Total wait time for coffee: nearly 5 minutes. Remember, we are the only diners in attendance. After receiving our drinks we placed our food orders. Begin countdown to plating... over 15 (closer to 20) minutes to get a breakfast skillet and a brunch-style pizza with an egg in the middle. Again, only diners and simple food items. The food presents quite well as you can see in the pictures, however, my skillet was dried out and seemed like it was prepared before the pizza even went in the oven- sitting under the hot lamps in the meantime. The pizza was our last hope. First bite, I was immediately brought back to grade school lunch for pizza Friday. This was almost entirely due to the dough which was dry and bland with a factory premade taste and feel to it. The combination of ingredients on the pizza were not bad, but also not worth raving about. While eating, never once did the server ask to refill my $3 small mug of coffee or our small, 8 oz. waters once emptied. Finally, the price. This place is not cheap. My breakfast skillet only came with one egg and had to order a second egg which brought the already overpriced $12 skillet up another $1. Coffee $3 for a small mug, $4 for the kale tonic, and $12 for the pizza. The bill was roughly $35 dollars for the two of us. This place is missing key elements for the dining experience they are trying to create. This place will unfortunately be scratched off my list as there are many breakfast/lunch places in the area that offer a much better meal in a considerably more efficient manner at a better price.

This place was really nice. The decor is really cute and it makes the place seem kind of home-y. The service was a tad bit slow but everyone was really nice. The S'more Pancakes were really good-- a bit heavy though. Otherwise they were all the right things a pancake should be. My little brother really liked the Mini Burgers on the kids menu. According to him they were a bit sweet but still good. I would definitely recommend going here though for breakfast. So overall, it was a great experience and I'll definitely come here again.

My wife kept suggesting to try out Roots Cafe. We finally stopped in on a Sunday morning for brunch. I had a porkroll, egg & cheese sandwich. What made the sandwich really unique was that it was served on a sourdough roll. For me, that absolutely made the sandwich! My wife had a Chicken Roma sandwich, which she said was delicious!
We were seated right away when we arrived around 11:45am, but a waiting line for a table formed soon after. The service was a tad on the slow side as the restaurant began to fill up. All in all, we had a good experience at Roots Cafe, and I think it's safe to say that we will be back!

Nice and spacious place with good sized menu. We both had the skillets with myself choosing the N’Awlins skillet with andouille sausage, potatoes, peppers and egg on top. The sausage was fantastic and whatever seasoning they had in there was perfect.
The waitress (Joanna I think) was really nice. The only negative was the chairs were pretty uncomfy but we don’t plan of staying for hours on end when we return very soon.

My first time visiting and definitely will not be my last. Great menu items, decent prices, friendly and helpful staff and of course GREAT FOOD. The skillets are amazing, and everything was fresh and hot. We received our orders very quickly even in the mist of a late morning rush!! It can be hard to miss from the street and the exterior is still a work in progress (as most hidden gems are) however the interior is clean, well laid out and comfortable. My new go-to spot for bunch!!
