I ordered The Sunday roast without gravy . When it arrived covered in thick gravy I pointed out that I had specifically asked for no gravy. I was then told that, 'that was how it came'
Under presure and reluctantly it was changed. The meat although plentiful was finely sliced that to me indicates its cut from precooked joints and reheated which is OK but only just.
The Vegetables, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were 1st rate.

Quaint pub with great prices, friendly service and mostly importantly tasty homemade food. The fish cake special and the trout tartare there was to die for.
For dessert I’d recommend the banoffee pie.
Shout out to my lovely servers Maya, Hector and Chapi.
Bonus points for the fab music playlist too.

🚇 Kennington
🍺 £5.40 Amstel
❤️ A traditional Kennington pub complete with bedrooms and comedy club.
.
The Tommyfield is located on a busy intersection on Kennington Lane and Kennington Road and is just a five minute walk from Kennington Tube station.
.
At first glance at ground floor level, this pub looks contemporary in appearance but once you look up you can see how majestic the architecture is. If you look to the very top of the building you can see the pub’s original name, The White Hart. This pub is named after a nineteenth century market which was the home to Britain’s first fish and chip shop.
.
The decor here is simple but stylish. There are a few raised areas and a good size bar. There are lots of comfy sofas and chairs which make for a comfortable pub experience.
.
The beer choice is straightforward and full of familiar favourites. I had a pint of Amstel which was reasonably priced but was a bit flat. The lady who served was very nice and gave a warm welcome. The food menu is full of British classics with a good selection of hearty pies. For pub comparison purposes fish and chips costs £15 here, which is average London pub price.
.
I visited around 4pm on a Saturday afternoon and the pub was quiet. Apart from myself, there was a couple having a chat in one of the window seats and some guests checking in to stay at the six bedroomed hotel upstairs. This Kennington pub also hosts comedy nights by @alwaysbecomedy which showcases the best comedic talent around. Recent performers include Jack Whitehall, Joel Dommett and James Acaster.
.
There are lots of positives here at this multifaceted pub. The beer and food are reasonably priced and the comfortable surroundings make this pub a nice place to have a pint.

This place has such a great Sunday roast!
We’d been staying in Kennington and passed this place a few times as we thought it seemed quiet but talk about how wrong we were! We decided to try it out and we had the best time! We ordered the Roast Beef and the Roast Pork with all the trimmings and it was absolutely delicious! Could not fault the food at all!
The staff were also so genuinely helpful and friendly which we all found so refreshing.
Even though they appeared to be short staffed they all still served us with a smile!
Would definitely come back and we obviously recommend the roast!!

It was my friends' and my first experience coming to a pub but we decided we had to! Chose this place bc it was open late. The server was very nice explaining to us how pub culture is as we were terribly nervous. Had a good time and good food. The chef reopened the kitchen for dessert which was very incredibly kind. Would have gone again if we had time!

A great pub which we visit regularly for the always excellent comedy nights. The last couple of times we ate there first and the food has also been great. Last night we both had fish and chips which can be disappointing at some places but here it was cooked to perfection and accompanied by delicious home made pea purée and tartare sauce. Even better, it was on a two for one deal, as were many of the drinks before 7pm. Highly recommended

The pub and restaurant was so lovely! This includes a sweet and friendly server which really made it so cozy.
The place itself looks nice on the inside and outside, unfortunately like most places we got a table which wiggled.
They only gave us one menu but we were two people, and from looking around they had done that at other tables too. Which is a bit annoying.
Food none the less was tasty, and they also change menu depending on the season which I really good!

Could be so good !

Great venue ! Decent wine , awful service average food !

I popped in here looking for an early evening Sunday lunch . Had a couple of drinks and read the paper . Had to ask for the menu a few times , I ordered the pork belly , I would be wrong to be negative as I sent a empty plate back to the kitchen . However more of a pork steak than belly , certainly not slow cooked , excellent cracklings thou I add ,average jus , average mash , average greens ! Decent Malbec will keep me going if they ever offer me pudding ! A great shame could be awesome however simply #average

The Tommyfield is a Kennington gastropub that’s really trying its very best to be all hippity hop hop and happening. It’s the sort of pub that probably goes golfing with its publican friends of a Sunday, dressed in tweed with Hunter wellies on its little pub feet.... Dodgy decor aside, the Tommyfield serves one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had in London. The Sunday menu features all the favourites, there’s the humble chicken, the traditional roast beef, the *trying to do something a little bit different* pork belly. There’s no culinary boundaries being pushed, but that’s not what you want on a Sunday, is it? Well it’s not what I want. I want the comfort of a traditional roast dinner.

I dined here during the World Cup, it was really busy as it is a pub, a gastro pub but a pub nonetheless.

I had a fish cake for starter which was delicious. It came with a fresh salad and a spicy mayo. For my main, I had their burger. Although it wasn't the best burger I've ever had, I thought it was still pretty awesome. Meat tasted good, though I prefer my burgers pink in the middle, it was still juicy and the bun and salad were perfect.

The Tommyfield, named after the 19th century London market that was home to Britain’s first fish and chip shop, is part of the Renaissance pub group and boasts a menu that offers sustainable English fish, old school pie and mash and free-range meat from their farm in Hampshire. They also have real ales, and soon we were all firmly ensconced at our table on the raised seating area, pints of, Battersea brewed, Wandle in hand.

For main course I opted for a rabbit pie (£11) which was served with soggy chips and instant gravy. I think the pie might have been bought in because the pastry work was very neat and the sauce generic, but the quality of the meat was good. The portion sizes were very large and I was far too full for dessert.

This place is frustrating. You can see how it could be great but, it just isn't.

Food is very expensive for what it is, i.e no thrills pub food. Wasn't the worst food I've ever had but couldn't help feeling disappointed. Particularly with the tiny starter portions...

We went on a Thursday night and the place was heaving and very understaffed, with only two members of staff tending to the bar and dinning tables. As a result service was poor. The management really do need to sort this problem and get more staff on as punters were getting irate.

It’s the sort of pub that probably goes golfing with its publican friends of a Sunday, dressed in tweed with Hunter wellies on its little pub feet. It probably spends a lot of time telling its golfing pub friends about its contemporary yet classic decor. They’re not interested, but Tommyfield doesn’t care. Tommyfield reckons it’s a pretty cool establishment, it wants them to know. It wants you to know, too. The decor is so gastropub it hurts. It’s got the rustic chairs that don’t match, because matching furniture is so passe, dahling . It’s got blackboards awash with hilarious jokes, and it’s staffed exclusively by overly familiar members of staff with the exact same hairdo. (You know the one, its designed to look like they just rolled out of bed. They’re not fooling us though. We know it’s taken them ages to look that chilled out. Their heads are covered in lies.) These

I liked it, but it was almost a don't. The food was actually good (nothing special thou) but the feel of the place was a bit off. Looked like it was a bit amateur, the waiter was impatient, the music was lame and that sort of thing. Wouldn't recommend.

The Tommyfield is the sort of place every neighbourhood should have, as I found myself too lazy to cook one evening, it proved to be a great little culinary hideout! As you enter, the atmosphere will hit you straight away as bustling tables of happy diners (and winers!) and smiling staff come into view. We were welcomed warmly by a waiter who turned out to be very knowledgeable about wine and although suggested which bottle of wine we should have, it wasn't in that pressurising manner that some pontsy restaurants do to get you to buy the overpriced bottle! We chose a light and summery bottle of Viognier as we both settled on scallops followed by poultry! We had just about made up our minds when we saw some gigantic pies march out of the kitchen and onto the tables next to us. My boyfriend at that point officially changed his mind and went for the chicken pie while I was still set on trying (for the first time ever) some guinea fowl. Our scallops starters were well-cooked and tasted fre

For me Sunday lunch conjures up images of crispy roast potatos with a hint of rosemary and garlic, rich hot gravy, freshly risen Yorkshire puds and a nice warm and cozy atmoshphere. If it's the same for you AVOID the Tommyfield. We had to send the first plates back as all aspects of the food were stone cold. What we had instead was no better, it seemed the meat had been taken off the plate and the rest put in the microwave. Cooks (Trades Description Act prevents me from calling them chefs) from catering college these days seem to attend the lectures on 'How to Overprice Food' and 'Stack the Food like a tower for presentation' but must still be in bed for the 9am Monday morning lecture on basic cooking skills. They did take 25% off the final bill but thank god I didn't take my mother there, god forbid, she'd think all london eateries were like this.. Surprising that the place was busy with the yummy mummy brigade but I suppose with the hectic lives they lead having anything cooked for them, no matter how badly, is a godsend..

Great Place / Great Service. I have supported the Tommyfield (previously the White Hart) for many years, especially when watching cricket nearby at the Oval.
Very popular, so recommend you book a table if eating. Great selection of freshly cooked food, good wine list and staff are always friendly mixture of Brits, Aussies and Kiwis.

Tommyfield, great place to eat great food.. Has a gastro pub feel to the place, with emphasis on the gastro-bit, ie really good food without any restaurant fussiness. starters of whitebait (freshest and best i've had in a while) and goats cheese salad(delicious bit of grilled squash with the cheese on toast, very good), mains of burger with blue cheese and bacon ( tasty, two rashers, melting blue cheese and tomato chutney with it, chips maybe could've been crispier) and roast beef (three thick slices of fantastic medium tender beef, great Y'shire pud n veg n potatoes). Really good presentation of all dishes, and i wanted to eat everything on the menu but lacked the requisite elephant's belly. Also, large portions, which is always good.
