Java Jive

The coffee is a bit weak for my tastes, but if you like strong coffee, a The Shot in the Dark should it for ya. Food is good, but it’s fairly common to order something and then be told they’re out. That said, service is excellent. Every employee is nice and welcoming. Baked goods are superb. Tea choices are great. Great vibe inside. Nice local shop!

This is honestly the best coffee shop in Hannibal and honestly one of my personal favorites. Way better than Starbucks that's for sure. It has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere with super nice baristas. The coffee and the food is top notch. I have loved this place since I was a teenager and when I moved back to Hannibal 3 years ago, it was just as good if not better than I remembered it to be. If you are a local or a tourist looking for somewhere with good coffee and good food, this is the place to be.

Love the selection of clever gift items, like Lesley Knope stationery, that you can shop while waiting for your lunch to be prepared. Menu items named after artists, like the Rockwell and the Pollock, are tasty and satisfying. The harvest bread on the Rockwell is very good, holding an ample amount of ham and cheese, plus just the right amount of veggies. The chicken salad is delicious served on a bed of fresh lettuce and cherry tomatoes. Plenty of seating for all. Enticing baked goods, particularly the cheery frosted M&M cookies! A lovely respite for travelers and looks like the locals keep the staff busy.

The first time I went to Java Jive was in 2013. I was on my first family trip in six years, to the Illinois state fair, and my mom impulsively pulled up the directions to Hannibal. Stepping in here with my siblings, parents, and grandma out of the summer heat, it felt like time stopped for a little while. The surroundings were gorgeous - the art and pottery everywhere made it feel like a welcoming, creative space, and you could feel that all the regulars were valued and all the tourists were treated like 'future regulars.' It worked on me. I've come back once a year since, and though the faces have changed, nothing has diminished in quality - the space has only grown more beautiful. I'm looking forward to my yearly stop through this September.
