Sekisui Cordova

Went for lunch on a Friday and it was almost completely empty. Sushi was decent but almost no spice to the spicy tuna roll. Noodles were plentiful. Ordered spring rolls to go but when we opened the box at home we only found two rolls that were cut in half. Considering the price we should've had at least three times that amount. Service was great but the food needs to be amped up a bit.

I went here last night and while I thought the location was nice (clean) and staff friendly over all the experience was poor. I tried the ramen, some different rolls, the yakitori and the fried ice cream. The ramen was ok but not great. My company did not like the giant pieces of pork fat served in the soup (I personally liked it). The rolls were also just ok. While I enjoyed the flavor most of the rolls on the menu looked sub par. Also, the rolls themselves were not rolled tight so structurally most fell apart. The yakitori was awful. We had a chicken with plum sauce and a pork belly. The chicken with plum sauce tasted the way a urinal cake smells. The pork belly tasked like steak... because it was indeed steak. Lastly, the fried ice cream was good. That is a decadent desert. Overall there are better options in Memphis for sushi and ramen.

I don't know what happened, here, but the menu changed dramatically for the better. This place has, by far, the most authentic Japanese cuisine in the Memphis metro area, now, and it serves it at reasonable prices. The decoration and atmosphere could certainly be improved, but if you want Japanese with JAPANESE FLAVOR--not American or Chinese flavor with a Japanese appearance--this is the place to go.

I was an employee for this restaurant for a little over a year and all I can say is that the new manager, Yoshi, is the complete downfall of that restaurant. Food is good, but service is very slow and Yoshi is constantly yelling at employees in front of customers as head of the sushi bar and is creating terrible atmosphere for the entire restaurant. Sekisui is a good franchise, but stay away from the Cordova location.
