I had a massive Taiwanese fried chicken craving over the weekend and some of my awesome foodie buddy's suggested @lazymonkeycafe. The chicken was fantastic, although the portions were smaller than expected and definitely a bit pricy. We paid about $16 for a plate of chicken tenders and a bubble tea. Will have to try their other food soon!

The location has a pretty good meal selection. The Taiwanese fried chicken is very flavourful and a decent crunch, well seasoned. The fried chicken hearts and gizzards were cooked well though they did lack in flavour and the texture was nothing special. The hot milk tea was quite pleasant and not overly sweet. Lychee green tea hot had a good flavour and tasted very nice. Overall a reasonable spot to go for a quick bite.

opened quite late for a bubble tea joint that's not downtown. I recommend their actual bubble tea (not fruit smoothies, tea), their tea is brewed to an appropriate concentration, meaning you could actually taste the bitterness and other flavors of the tea,instead of just milk alone.You could also order without ice to increase the amount of drink you get. The fruit flavored ones are mostly made from powder,not fresh fruit ,which I dislike but I'm sure others don't mind .I haven't had a chance to try their food,but their milk teas are great.

Not a bad bubble tea and snacks place to grab and go. The place seats about 20 people and the ambiance is average at best. Busy spot for take and the staff is quick and fast with the food and drinks.

Stopped by here for some bubbletea after going out for dinner. Don't have much of a selection from what we are use from our usual place. I got the traditional milk tea with pearls and my hubby got passionfruit slush was pearls. The bbt were good but it's nothing special.

Been there couple times with my friends on the weekend for lunch. I really enjoyed the Taiwanese style rice and baked pasta. The food and the bubble tea were good. Just don't expect great service from a family run restaurant. It's a good alternative from the burger and fries.

This is a pretty good bubbletea (BBT) place with Chinese snacks that you can order. There is a lot of high school students that come here as it is next to Diefenbaker. The food is pretty good and filling. The traditional milk tea is good and you can tell its made of real red tea instead of instant tea powder.<br/><br/>This place is quite small but is mostly place to pick up BBT then leave. <br/><br/>Tons of parking in front as it is in a plaza.

Fell in love with the dry ribs and fried chicken. I ate them to very last crumb - deliciously salty and definitely unhealthy but oh so worth it.<br/>The mango paradise bubble tea with tapioca was on the sweeter side but it was very fresh! <br/>Had no. 34 which was hot intant noodle soup - also very delicious ❤❤ i will return for sure!

The food in here is more towards the pricier side if you compare it to other bubble tea/ Taiwanese snack places. I like the traditional milk tea from here and the appetizers are yummy. The food portions are small even though you are paying more than other bubble tea places but they are still yummy. The presentation is pretty nice and they have good variety of snacks. The place itself is quite small so it will be uncomfortable for big groups of people (around 8 and up) to sit in the restaurant, if you decide to do so, then make reservations ahead of time or you will wait around 30 minutes before you get seated.

Having lived back in Hong Kong for several years, we have high expectations when it comes to bubble tea! We were so happy to have this place recommended to us by a few friends because finally, we had a place to go to for drinks and great Taiwanese snacks!. The bubble tea here is generally great and to be honest I am very loyal to my milk green tea-half sweet bubble teas so I can’t really comment on their range of offerings. However, I will say that I love their snack selection here. A few favourites are their Taiwanese fried chicken (鹽酥雞) and fried chicken hearts. The Taiwanese chicken tastes just like something that we would’ve eaten in Hong Kong in a cafe, great crisp and just the right amount of seasoning. The chicken hearts, well I just really like it because it brings back memories from when I was younger and used to eat these all the time. Plus honestly, where else could I get this in Calgary?!

The food here is kinda pricy compared to other taiwanese restaurants. The bubble tea is good, but not the best in town. (a bit to sweet for me). The service they have is okay, just that kind of the restaurant will only order and bring you food. A convenience place to go after study, but I don't think i will go all the way to get their food

A favorite place of mine for taiwanese cafe food. They serve great milk and bubble teas hot or cold. It's a great place to grab a quick meal or hang out and order some snacks. My favorite dishes include the yam fries with plum seasoning, taiwanese chicken, chicken wings, pork cutlet and Hakka pork meals. The service is quick but the staff could be more personable. We are regulars and it would be nice if the staff recognized that.

It's a very nice Taiwanese-Canadian family owned and operated place. They have great Taiwanese comfort food and drinks. It is a small place but you can order take-out or make reservation.

Its nice to have a bbtea/taiwanese style place to go to in the nw, instead of downtown. Lazy monkey has a decent variety of snacks and drinks. My girlfriend love getting the milk tea from there, and some days we just order ahead of time and pick it up to go. When we stay there we usually order some of their food too. We love the taiwanese chicken, gizzards and dumplings. We have tried their casserole dishes as well which are pretty good. <br/>It is a small place and sometimes you might have to wait for a table.

This is my favorite place to grab a milk tea and Taiwanese chicken. Their Taiwanese chicken is always hot and fresh, and is seasoned really well. Their milk tea doesn't taste watered down like some of the places in Calgary. Even though it's $5 a cup, it's still worth it to come here for milk tea.<br/>

Authentic Taiwanese Food. Having lived in Taiwan for several years, and my wife being taiwanese, I was looking for real taiwanese food. This place is it. Everything about the place screams Taiwan. I was very surprised to find green tea and yakult (多多錄茶.) The service was great and so was the food. I recommend it.

It's expensive but I'm willing to pay the price because I'm from Edmonton.... Ignoring the prices and the service - this is my favorite bubble tea / snack place in Edmonton/Calgary! It's small but the bubble tea is excellent - more than excellent. The wings here are fresh too. I think I came here twice within a 2-day visit... yeah I'm a crazy foodie. You have to try this place!!! Even if it is a little out of the way in an uncertain neighborhood!

Very disappointed,General food and expensive. I've heard that it is a great Taiwan style restaurant to have afternoon tea with. But when I got my bill, I realized how expensive the food are , I ordered a milk tea and rice , and it costed almost $25 (not inclued tips ), and I still feel hungry when I finished . (then i got a pizza next door) The food are ok though , but the price really suprise me . And by the way , the milk tea taste like coffee-mate mixed in tea and water. The restaurant is loud , not a very good place to chat with your family.

Terrible service; bad milk tea. It was a terrible experience overall! I would not go back and would not recommend others to go there! The resturant is cozy but the server was extremely rude. He made a mistake on my order. This was not a big deal as everyone makes mistake. However, when I told him he got the wrong order, he made sure I knew he was upset that he had to redo it. In the end, the milk tea was not good. It was lacking the taste of tea!

Great (Traditional) Milk Tea. Their bubble tea is our favorite in Calgary. Pearls have the perfect consistency (which seems to be difficult for many places). Grass Jelly is made in house. <br/><br/>They even offer the option of full sweetness, 1/2 or even 1/4 . They have the service of Starbucks!

One of the best bubble tea place, Milk tea with pearls (Simple and great), The food is pretty good except it is in very small portions for the price, it has increasing expensive to hang out here for bubble tea and snacks. Taiwanese Fried Chicken is Great. I always get the Taiwanese Fried Chicken snack if I'm here. It always comes out hot, fresh and perfectly cooked. Whatever blend of spices and sauces they use to marinade the chicken, it's working. They're also know for Taiwanese style milk tea. I personally prefer HK style milk tea, but the Taiwanese style has grown on me. The tea blend is different and I find it lighter and not as heavy, but it's still fragrant and delicious. Food prices are a bit steep compared to other bubble tea places, but I don't mind paying for that fried chicken! I've also eaten the omelet curry rice recently. It's Japanese style curry, but when I ate it the curry sauce was quite watery. I'd like to try one of the casseroles next time as they looked like a pretty big serving. I've never had issue with the service aside from it being a tad bit slow. I'll be back for more milk tea and fried chicken!

Tried to keep an open mind. Honestly, the quality of their drinks are food are above par, but it can't make up for their terrible quality of service. I've been 3 times in the last two weeks and each time it took 5-10 minutes before we were acknowledged and/or seated and another 10 minutes to makes our drinks even when the place was empty. I kept an open mind and tried the place more than once, hoping they were just having an off day, but that was not the case. If you care about customer service, I would not recommend this place, it makes me more irritated as I leave than when I arrived

The Taiwanese fried chicken is a must try! You can smell the fresh basil in every little "popcorn" chicken piece. <br/>For drinks I recommend the milk tea with grass jelly. It is nice and light and not overly sweet

I’m always looking for new things to try. I am very unfamiliar with Taiwanese food so I went to satisfy my curiousity. Unfortunately, I did not have a photo taking device, so a description would have to do. Lazy Monkey is a tiny, family run cafe. It looks like a place where Asian high school kids hang out to do their homework. Well, they were doing just that and Sir Winston Churchill is across the road. If you like bubble tea, this is the place for you. Being neither a high schooler nor a bubble tea lover, my friend and I sampled the regular courses. I just had to try the chicken hearts. They came broiled, six to a skewer, with a light dusting of salt and pepper and a subtle taste of five spice. Who ever thought chicken hearts could be tasty. Next time will have to try the gizzards. My friend had the egg wrap with curry rice. The curry reminded me of Japanese style curry. It was a good foil for the hearty serving of rice and egg. I had the Hakka style pork. The bubble tea here taste flavourless and diluted. Food r way overpriced for the amount of food u gets. Seems like the owner is afraid of giving u too much food that they would loss money, but I think for the price they charged, the portion of a dish should be larger and bubble tea should be more concentrated.

Coming from vancouver, i have a high expectation for bubble tea.. Lazy monkey is a small restaurant, but compared to bigger companies like bubblemania, this place taste a lot better. The food and drinks are authentic compared to other restaurants. My favorite Taiwanese cafe in Calgary. Def recommend.

Nice and cozy place!. I love Lazy Monkey! My bf and i come here a lot, they have really good creamy milk tea with sweet tasting pearls. Theyre Taiwanese fried chicken also very good. We have tried almost every meal they serve and loved them all. The decor and lighting is nice and cozy, great hang out, quick meal/drink place!

Not as good as it use to be. I've gone to school since Jr. High, and its gone downhill with the new management. Use to know the lady that worked the cashier, she knew my regular. Now, they have constantly overcharged me or given incorrect change. Count your change! I miss the simple little cafe, not this new, decorated mess (though the seats are more comfortable..)

Really authentic Taiwanese food!. Went there today and got the Taiwanese fried chicken. Tastes just like it does in Taiwan. Sounds pricey for 8 dollars but you get a big basket. Chicken was really juicy and flavorful. If you're daring, ask for the chicken hearts! (Not written on the English menu) Texture was similar to steak. Deep fried corn was good as well. <br/><br/>Got passionfruit green tea and taro bubbletea. The green tea was really refreshing but the taro milk tea could have used some more taro powder. Pearls were a good consistency although I would have liked a little bit more! <br/><br/>Overall a good find for Taiwanese snacks! I'll be back to try other things on their menu!

Lazy Monkey. The Taiwanese Fried Chicken seems to be the most popular menu item here. Basket after basket of it kept coming out of the kitchen while I was there. Good blend of spices in the batter, piping hot and it wasn't greasy at all. <br/><br/>As far as the drinks go, $4.25 for a pineapple fruit slush with pearls was pretty resonable. Service was fast and friendly. In and out in less than an hour.

Servers are always friendly, bubble tea is great, and I'm obsessed with the Taiwanese fried chicken (taste just as good as it is in Taiwan) and I also like to order the baked rice. It's the only Taiwanese restaurant I know of in calgary so I go often :)

A True Gem. The Lazy Monkey Cafe is truly a hidden Gem. Don't let the location, name or the size of the cafe fool you, the food and drinks here are amazing. The cafe is family owned and operated, and the service here is truly exceptional. The friendly nature of the owners is what makes the Lazy Monkey such an inviting destination. That is not all, being very particular with my drinks, especially when it comes to Taiwanese Bubble Tea, the Lazy Monkey offers aroma rich premium teas imported from Taiwan that leaves the patron craving for more. In addition, the selections on the menu may not be of anything phenomenal, however it is adequate considering the size of the location, which seats roughly 30 people. Also, the food here is impressive, and brings the true elements of what "real" Taiwanese food is like and sets the benchmark for Taiwanese cuisine in Calgary. Still not convinced? I highly recommend any food enthusiasts to sample this location and discover the next talk of the town.
