Drinking coffee overlooking Aotea square on a sunny day with free unlimited sparkling water. Great location, friendly staff, comfy, warm and some good baristas. This is a choice place to hang out when you need to kill some time in central Auckland.

The food was average. I ordered an iced tea and they brought me a hot tea, the staff didn’t know there own menu all seemed confused and grumpy. then they forgot my mother’s cinnamon toast which ended up taking 20 minutes to arrive after we finished all our meals. None of the staff were friendly and none of them even showed the slightest smile; not something you want at 9am.

We just had my daughter's first birthday there ... we have had an amazing time there . Great food , great location , lovely and friendly staff and good place to host your party . We had around 100 guests including 24 toddlers and we all have had a great time there ...

Just had an impromptu Christmas lunch here with workmates and ALL of us came back laughing (fortunately) about how bad the service and food was. Truly. I have rarely had worse. I had to ask 3 times for my cold tea, which should have accompanied a meal I got much earlier. Friend's croissant was burnt. Tomato sauce was slopped over another's cardigan. My own meal arrived barely warm, after I asked for it - served after a number of others who were behind me in the line. Two others waited a huge amount of time for a simple smoothie and twice went back to request it. I could go on and on. I wished we'd been able to use the venue, which is superb, and ask Coffee Club to provide food and service to us there.

Coffee here is flipping a coin, sometimes drinkable, sometimes not even that. <br/><br/>Tried food twice, left more than half of if... twice. The veggie salad had undercooked potatoes and veggies in it and the chicken was absolutely bland.<br/><br/>Not coming back.

I went to Box Cafe & Bar this afternoon before my sister's graduation and ordered a cappuccino and flat white. The coffees were served promptly and we're of good quality. If you're after a quick coffee, I'd recommend Box Cafe & Bar to family, friends, and followers.<br/>

Called in here for pre Theatre drinks on Friday 19 February 2016 with a friend Julie Giesen waiting for BRIEFS - was a great show - they over charged me for happy hour house wine huuum - wouldn't use this place again.

The pizzas are great. Delicious amount of toppings and slightly salty which made them amazing. Just right with a lovely cold glass of sav. A great atmosphere and outlook over the square.

A nice new look for The Box interior wise, a good menu, had the Chicken quiche and was very delicious. Service was really good, would like to try out the coffees and hot chocolate but have heard good words.

Nice food and ambience. I absolutely love their interior. Customer service is also good. We had their chicken quiche and bacon and egg pie. They are worth a try.

Love the new look decor and the extended seating area is a bonus! Not sure how comfy the new chairs would be and chose the padded bench seating over the low slung coffee table chairs. Coffee is fine, however the draw for me is Harney & Sons tea, particularly the African Sunset. Cabinet food is cabinet food at the end of the day, and no amount of zhuzhing will make it any better - not a fan of reheated pastry, although the tart fillings are tasty.

The Box Cafe is a perfect go to when skating in Aotea Square. The current setting is perfect for the chilly weather as they have blankets available to use when dining or having a coffee at the cafe. The workers are approachable and friendly which made the transaction easy. I highly recommend the hot chocolate ad it is quite nice and they use melted chocolate to make it. Overall, this cafe is amazing and is doing everything quite well. Would definitely go back and just hang out there whenever ay the pop up ice rink or if in the mood for something warm.

Having seen many shows and events at the Aotea Centre over the years, I always felt something was missing so I was stoked when Box Cafe came along! <br/><br/>The cafe looks great lit up at night and it has fab views out onto Queen St, the Town Hall and on those passing through Aotea Square. The cafe has ample space with the best tables being those perched by the heaters.<br/><br/>Despite the surrounds, the cafe lacks ambience and I wonder if it's because patrons come and go depending on what might be showing at the Aotea Centre at any one time. I also find the service to be lacklustre - friendly but unengaging springs to mind. <br/><br/>The food and drinks are satisfactory without being amazing and to be honest, it's only the convenience of the location that brings me here.

Had breakfast here. I had chicken sandwich and my boyfriend had muesli and Latte.<br/>My sandwich was delicious with Brie cheese and it was good portion.<br/>Muesli was ok in the other hand, it was not with fresh fruits.<br/>We paid around 20$ for this and out side patio was beautiful. We will come back again :)

Had to return our three coffees as they were tepid and watery. The replacement coffees were completely undrinkable - tasted very burnt and once again lukewarm. Very disappointing.

My friend had to take her first coffee back as it was so gutless, her second one was cold and also had to go back. The food tasted nice but was not heated properly and she later had an Intestinal upset.<br/>My coffee was as ordered, but did not come with cold milk as I'd asked. never go back.<br/>orders came quickly enough but there weren't many customers.

Nice to see the Box Cafe & Bar management has the funds to employ EIGHT (8) young waiter staff during its morning and afternoon shifts. Pity these budding thespians appear to treat working in a busy environment like being in a musical! With an OBVIOUS CONTEMPT for the paying public, and a surplus of back stage laughter & idle chit chat whilst tables wait to be cleared, these toxic little gen y'ers could do well to hone their hospitality skills and drop the attitude! You're not stars yet, dears!
