Square Roots Kitchen

Great little place. I called in today and was fortunate to arrive when there was no queue as it was busy the whole time I was sitting there. Lovely friendly service. The coffee was excellent ( offered the choice of 2 shots). I had a sandwich which was toasted. It was delicious. I didn’t intend to have anything sweet but there were some lovely looking muffins so I went back up to buy one. It was so moist and tasty. Everything is vegan. Don’t let that put you off. It is all fresh and super tasty. I’ll definitely be going again when I’m in Monkseaton

Had a lovely time eating here ! Full vegan diner with some great options and lots of fresh cakes / bakes / pastries . We had the sausage sandwichs which were loaded with fresh veg / salad and dressings . Very good flavour and filling ! We also had 2 Berry smoothies which were decent . I do think there could be more added in to the smoothie options to make them thicker and flavoursome . They were quite milky . We asked for Peanut butter which we think helped the flavour, but this wasn't shown as an option on the menu which it should . We then took 2 carrot cake slices away which were so good ! Staff were lovely and friendly! Great atmosphere, would definitely come again !

For years, we have wished for a vegan kitchen & coffeehouse in our local area. Once we heard about Square Roots opening a plant-based café, we were looking forward to trying it out. We were not disappointed. Our expectations were exceeded. The barista coffee is lovely and comes double-shot as standard (no extra charge for an extra shot of coffee). Plant-based milk is standard (no extra charge for vegan milk). The coffee is well-priced and costs less than what you would be charged elsewhere for a coffee with a milk alternative. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Matt & Jo are the friendliest café couple. The rest of the staff are a credit to the place. Square Roots has a nice feel to it; we feel relaxed and comfortable here. You are not made to feel rushed or pushed. They make a wide variety of drinks (hot, cold and iced). There is a great range of freshly prepared hot food and an array of freshly prepared cold food. They have both sweet and savoury options. My favourite 'coffee with cake' combo is the Dirty Biscuit (Hot Biscoff & Coffee) with a Blueberry Croissant. The Blueberry Cake was the best cake I have ever had - without question. Other honourable mentions include: Berry Bagel, Biscoff Muffin, Apple Crumble & Custard Muffin, Oat Cappuccino, Steak-less Pasty, Sausage Roll w/ Stuffing & Chilli Jam. Their Specials have been truly 'special'. They offer a diverse and constantly changing Specials board along with their usual menu. Even their soup is sublime. Dogs are welcome and there is specially-made food/drink for them - including fresh fruit 'pupshakes'. We have been so frequently that we have had several free coffees from their loyalty card! We look forward to each and every visit. Thank you, Matt & Jo & Co. for being such a lovely group of people and for warmly welcoming us to such a wonderful place.

Amazing little cafe! It's all vegan and tastes amazing. I had the dirty iced chai with 2 shots that was delicious. My companions had an iced latte and the very berry smoothie- they loved them! And the food is divine as well. 10/10 cafe :) 07/11/22 update: went in again today and had a vegan sausage roll, a muffin , and an iced latte. Once again, very delicious and the staff was really kind and remembered me and my sister. Still amazing. 11/03/23 update: went in again today and got a load of their vegan savoury and sweet snacks. They were delicious and the staff was as friendly as usual. Still highly recommended this cafe!

Love this cafe 💕 100% vegan which is amazing. Food and drinks choice are unique and the food quality is fantastic. Staff are so friendly and give great advice on vegan products. Also sell lots of vegan items which you can't always find elsewhere. Well done square roots for doing a great job for us vegans.
