Dixie Grille

Down home eating place. Nothing pretentious. Just good food. Staff is friendly and attentive. The grilled cheese and meatloaf sandwich is outstanding. Stuffed potato wedges were good on their own. Portions are very good for the price. Drinks all come in small pitchers! Definitely a place to visit again!

I had heard a few comments about this restaurant, so I drove to Segiun to give it a try. The "Google maps" lead the way, but when we arrived, there was a neon sign that said it was something else, not Dixie Grille (sorry, I don't remember what name was listed on the sign). Over the door was a small sign that read Dixie Grille (very hard to read and not lit up). I ordered the chicken fried steak w/a choice of brown or cream gravy (I chose brown gravy) & two sides (I chose a salad & fries). I received a chicken fried steak with cream gravy, a salad with freezer burned lettuce and mashed potatoes. I sent it back to be corrected, which took them almost 20 minutes! My friend ordered a breakfast meal and said it was average at best & he finished his meal 10 mins before my meal was returned. When my meal was returned there was no gravy. I ask the waitress (and I use the term loosely) about the gravy? She asked what kind did I want? I told her the same kind I ordered 35 minutes ago. She replied, "Maybe you could just tell me!" Brown, I asked for brown gravy!" She walked away without response. Another waitress brought the brown gray. When I went to the counter to pay, the first waitress ask, "Would you like to leave a tip, I didn't see one on the table?" I looked her directly in the eye, took the pen and wrote "NO TIP", wrote the balance, & signed the tab, turned and walked out. I have been known to make allowances for mistakes, but, this was a mistake after mistake after mistake and not once was there a "I am terribly sorry" or even "an explanation to the lack of good service". This is not a place I will return to, nor recommend!

Had high hopes for this restaurant, as it was ranked in the top places to eat by tripadvisor. I noticed the mixed reviews on Google, but figured Id give it a try and stick with the higher rated items. The meal started off with a pitcher of soda, then the appetizer of fried pickles which was a huge basket. They were sliced thin and nicely battered. The pickles had good flavor, and the basket was enough to feed a table of 4. Then the main food arrived. I had ordered the fried catfish plate. It had 3 filets, that were pretty thin. They didnt have a lot of flavor, and were a bit tough, due to the thinness. The coleslaw was good though, had a ton of vinegar and cracked pepper, lots of flavor, and was crisp.. some of the better vinegar based coleslaw I've had anywhere.. The hushpuppies were OK, centers were soft, but outsides a bit on the well done side. At the end of the meal, I felt like I had eaten a lunch of pickles and coleslaw. The fish didnt really leave any impression, due to the small portion, and lack of flavor. For a $12 plate I was expecting better quality. This was my first time eating at Dixie Grill and the experience didnt win me over..
