Mapo Charcoal Bbq

There are 2 entrances depending on if you are on Victoria Road or the back street, there is a selection of pork, beef, chicken, duck and lamb for barbecue or there are also soups as well. For dinner it is required to order barbecue. Standard selection of beer and soju. The barbecue is coal fired so there is good taste in the meat. Quality of meat is acceptable, pricing for 2 is around $100-$120 for dinner.

It used to be good and I really loved their marinated pork ribs. I recently visited here and was shocked by their changes. What happened? Has the owner been changed? The BBQ served here wasn’t delicious any more. Not to mention that - poor meat quality - old and sticky grills - unfriendly and rushy staffs - rude owner at counter - 1.5% sur-charge no matter how much you spend if you pay by card Overall this was really terrible service i don’t want to experience again. I felt sad that I lost one of my favourite Korean BBQ restaurants.

Generous serving portions, & customer service was fantastic! My family & I had our own serving of the delicious spicy beef & vegetable soup/hotpot (Yuk gae Jung). Upon receiving our food, we realized we could have ordered two soups, yet we all polished off our respective servings 🤤 The ‘ban-Chan’ side dishes were delicious, fresh & well seasoned, ranging from kimchi, acorn jelly, known as ‘mook’ & another marinated bean sprout dish. To be perfectly blunt, the side dishes were not doused in mayonnaise & were traditional Korean side dishes. Highly recommend.

Mapo charcoal bbq is a very family friendly restaurant offering good quality meats on a charcoal bbq. The meats we ordered were deliciously marinated and bulgogi hot pot was scrumptious though the kimchi pancake was tiny bit of a let down. Though the meats are delicious the portions are definitely not worth the high price. The service left something to be desired and the sides were very tiny and no refills were offered except for kimchi.

7 of my family members tried to order mains with some bbq and were told we must order 1 serving of meat per person. Just wanted to try some wagyu (2 servings) plus mains per person. So if total 7 servings of wagyu just to start bbq= $45×7??? ... are you serious? Asking customer to order more is such a bad idea. It would have been different if these conditions were notified before sitting down. Very disappointed and walked out. I dont recommend at all.

SCAMMED... It makes me sad having to write this bad review as this is a regular place i go to for KBBQ, it was my 6th time going there and I've realized their service worsening every time i go back. But this incident draws the line and I will never come back again.. We ordered PREMIUM WAGYU and they tricked us by giving 2 pieces of bad quality meat together with 2 pieces of premium wagyu. (It was very obvious, two pieces was packed with marbling on the meat and the other two had no marbling at all and we even mistaken it to look like liver). When asked why the meats look so different he hurriedly just chuckled and said it is premium wagyu and walked away. It was very obvious that the meats were drastically different in appearance and texture/taste that anyone could tell it was different quality of meat. The premium wagyu was the most expensive meat on the menu as well and we just felt so cheated and unethical for them to do this.
