Tap & Mallet

We came for the famous fish and chips, but were unexpectedly blown away by the veggie burger. Tap and Mallet has all of their burgers available in vegetarian-friendly form with a house-made chickpea patty, which was flavorful and honestly better than most conventional burgers I’ve eaten. The fish and chips was as delicious as expected, and there were so many french fries we ended up taking half home. The pretzel appetizer with pimiento cheese and honey mustard was a winner, and we will definitely get it again on our next visit.

I had the fish fry (a.k.a. "fish and chips" on the menu) and can honestly say that it's the best fish fry that I've ever had. The fish (cod) was so tender and the breading was perfection. The fries were delicious as well. They were able to accommodate our large party of 8 outdoors as requested. Will definitely be back.

Yerm! My wife and I wanted to get some poutine for our anniversary and read lots of great reviews of T&M...they weren't lying. This place has great food (my wife got a yummy vegan burger and I got the best fish fry I've ever had), great beer, and great service. We'll definitely go back. Lots and lots of beer choices too. We had great, local IPAs.

Incredible food, extensive beer menu, and delightful staff - what’s not to love? When I arrived I was bummed at first because they had gotten rid of the Rochester Burger (and I’d still love to see it back!), but our server assured us that there was a new head chef that was working to make sure the menu had all amazing things. I went with the southern chicken sandwich. It was easily too three chicken sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. And I eat a lot of chicken sandwiches. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The compliment of the honey aioli and homemade hot pickles to die for. My partner had the macaroni and cheese, which is just so, so good. The béchamel was on point and the flavors of the different cheeses blended together to make you feel warm, cozy, and just plain happy. Also, the black lager was terrific. Also, the servers really, really have a deep understanding of the beers, which is super helpful and a nice touch. If there is one thing I’d like to see them do a bit better it would be having the servers be a bit more attentive - particularly toward the end of the meal so that you can get boxes, pay, etc without too much of a delay when you’re finished eating.
