Steak 'n Shake

Sometimes I crave a good steakburger at night. This is definitely the place to go. The food isn't amazing, but it never disappoints. Also, their seasoning is pretty awesome, but heads up. Be prepared for heartburn if you overload with the Cajun seasoning. I was happy with my burger, fries, & shake. The service was friendly & prompt.

I remember when this chain served breakfast and other foods besides just burgers and shakes. Its lunch time and there is about 8 customers. So I can see that its not a popular place. The burgers are an average of $12 with drink. Its not bad food at all but nothing makes it stand out. I ate the Frisco burger. Not worth the stop with so many other choices that really make good burgers in the area. Maybe a late night stop because everyone else is closed. Definitely better than waffle house.

I should put a 1 star for the owners/management, but since the food and services are great I will leave it at 3 stars. I went on a Wednesday night at around 1am, there was only 3 cars in front of me. Yet it took 40 minutes to get my order. The employee said they only had 2 people to man the whole restaurant and a large group had come in, hence the delay. Why a 24 hour restaurant like Steak and Shake should only have 2 poor employees working and thus have people waiting 40 minutes for something that shouldn't take more than 5 is beyond me. Stop being so cheap and hire more people instead of exploiting a few.

Went yesterday with kids. Didn't have high expectations but just wanted good burgers and quick food. Unfortunately it was far from that. The booth we were seated at was dirty, old fries on the floor where our feet are. I get that their "uniform" is a white shirt and black slacks, but every single employee looked a mess with multiple stains all over their clothes. The menu's were sticky and nasty. Cleanliness was obviously not a concern. It took at least 5 minutes to get sat on a basically empty restaurant. Another 10 to order food and once complete another 5 to find someone in management to actually accept payment. Apparently the 3 staff loitering around the kitchen couldn't do it. The food was overdone, my daughter's chicken strips were basically rubber. Looking around the diner, there is a lack of caring and commitment by the ownership and management. It obviously translates into the staff.

The food is generally good and the shakes are generally great. The staff is friendly but not very well trained. I realize fast food equals high turnover but they flummoxed our order about 50% of the time. We have to remind the server about items we ordered that never show up or send fries back because they are cold. All that said, it's still not bad abd we eat there regularly.
