Kumback Lunch

This place is definitely unique. As many others on these reviews, we wanted local, homestyle food and this was exactly that. The sweet tea was spot on, we ordered loaded fries with ranch as our app and it was delicious, we also ordered the classic cheeseburger and it just had that flavor that you crave when you look for homemade patties. They had a little fridge that had slices of pie ready to serve, it was the cutest joint. We are from Stillwater and stopped here on the way back from Kansas, I would easily make the 30+ min drive just to eat here again.

We love finding local cafes to try out while being in towns we don’t typically go to. Showed up at 1 and it closes at 2. There were maybe 2 other tables when we came in. The atmosphere was not very welcoming. One of the waitresses made a comment about putting signs out at the ball field about NOT coming there. Very unprofessional and rude. The other waitress apologized for her and kept coming back to the table to apologize throughout our meal. If we hadn’t already ordered we would have walked out with the other tables that did. The burger was decent the fries weren’t seasoned. We will not go back.

We were in town for baseball tournaments and wanted to stop in for lunch. They close at 2 so we showed up about 1:15-1-20ish. Should be enough time, right? Wrong! We were greeted at the door and were told that they didn’t know there was baseball going on and that we should let our baseball team know not to come because they close in 20 minutes and they will have one waitress and one cook. I could have been more empathetic to them had she not been so hateful. Not the way to run a business. We left before ordering drinks because another waitress came back and made a snarky comment. Will never go back.

Walked in at 1:15 on Saturday before they closed at 2:00. Waitress there was openly rude to 3 tables and out loud told a table to call the other ball players and not come because they close in 20 min and they only have 1 cook and 1 waitress. After they get up to leave she then out loud says I can’t say I’m even mad about that! Remaining waitress kept apologizing over and over and over to us and the other tables but the other waitress actions are inexcusable and our group will never return ever!

I was looking for a small, local place with good old homestyle cooking. Kumback Lunch did not disappoint. The chicken fried steak was covered with peppery cream style gravy, which pared perfectly with real mashed potatoes. On Mondays they make fresh pies. I usually skip the pie crust but this crust was crumbly and flaky with a buttery flavor like those Christmas butter cookies. This place has obviously been around a long time. I imagine it is a favorite for locals and people returning to visit their hometown.
