Puebla Tacos

I'll be completely honest, I have not reviewed the many restaurants I've been to in a min just off the fact I frequent different ones all throughout LA and it'd be a hassle to write a review for each one. But I just had to leave my honest thoughts the first time I stopped by here. I ordered Carne Asada Fries, and nothing more. Nothing too crazy so surely, they can't come out bad right? Just meat and fries, some cheese and sour cream. But they were some of the worst fries I have had in a long time. Sure, they were still warm and the cheese had melted over. But The "Carne Asada to Fry" ratio was about 15% while the cheese was just a layer right above the whole dish. I can't even remember what the meat tasted like. And they charged me $13 for this? I've been to taco trucks who chuck in a generous amount of meat and the fries in "Asada Fries" are true to the name, the meat comes first and fries second. I do not recommend this dish but I can't fault the restaurant as a whole so I'll give 3 stars. But still, just based off such a simple dish coming out bad, I can make a guess on what the rest of the menu would turn out like.

My new (well, sorta' new, been coming here for a while now) go-to place for Mexican "plate food" as opposed to street tacos. (Their tacos are probably fine -- I've just never ordered them here.) After Ernie Jr.s closed, I looked for somewhere to get what I used to get there. Here I get cheese enchiladas and/or chile relleno. I get them either as a combo plate with rice and beans or ala carte without. I have always been very happy with my food! I cannot speak to anything else here, 'cuz that's all I order here. But any time I eat here there is always a steady stream of people coming in for food. I don't think that would happen if the other items on the menu weren't any good.

I love this place it's very charming. You can get all sorts of the standard type, meaning the fare you could get anywhere, but done to a very high standard. And beyond that you can get all sorts of special things like mole poblano and mulitas. their shrimp tacos were not as good as I have had elsewhere, even nearby they're probably only number 3, but they do so well with everything, and they have so much to offer, that I'm very impressed

Puebla Tacos is a good spot for pretty authentic Mexican food. They have a good looking breakfast menu. And their kitchen is open at least until 1:30am on weekends. For ambiance, think more like a Winchells Doughnuts, but with wall-to-wall nature murals from floor to ceiling. Parking is not entirely easy or street free. Puebla is next to a busy 7-11. Be careful, lots of traffic, and interesting people watching and occasionally some excitement. The 7-11 has a security guard posted at the door. And FYI, if you want a tour of the kitchen or to chat with the cook and dishwasher, ask to use the restroom. You literally walk directly through the full length of their kitchen. Everyone that works at Puebla is chill and cool, especially the sweet woman in front. I have tried the Tampiquena. Less than $15 with tax and tip. And the shrimp burrito, which is about $12 all in. Both were very good, but Pasadena has stiff competition. But for the money, and especially late night. They R D bomb 💣
