The burgers are fresh and good sized. The meat is good and prices are reasonable (don't get the sauce, $2 for an invisible pot of "jack sauce" which is TARTARE). Fries also good.

The chips are crinkle cut and are underwhelming - would recommend not getting them.
The whole menu is priced a bit higher than what it offers and the atmosphere is a bit dull.

Just around the corner from home so have frequented jacks a couple of times and each time - the wait is incredulously slow. Make sure you either beef the cheeseburger up with bacon or an extra patty otherwise it feels a bit like a snack.

This placed was hyped as Sydney's answer to Shake Shack, which is a tough way to enter the burger scene. It didn't quite match my Shake Shack expectations, but it was still a good burger. I ordered the double cheese and the meat was juicy. Prepare to get dirty people, the burgers gets a little messy with all that juiciness. The special sauce was nice. Unfortunately Custard Shakes weren't available midweek, only on weekends. Oh and no tomato sauce available (that one hurt the most). The crinkle cut fries were cooked to perfection.
There was quite a wait to order and we thought we might not get a table. Tables seemed to turn over pretty quickly though. There is a great vibe in this little burger bar and the staff were really friendly.
Overall it was a great burger, but not my favourite here in Sydney :)

I thought the burgers were good. If it wasn't for the price (I could've easily had 2) I would've given Jacks Newtown a 4. But $10 for a burger is a pricey and the size of them were quiet small. But, the taste of the burger was good. The meat was fantastic and so was the bun. The crinkle cut fries were great, but again, serving size is small. Fries are $5.

We went at 230pm on a Sunday, and there was no wait. I had the double bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a strawberry thick shake. Whilst the burger had good flavour, it was super greasy, and quite salty, and the taste didn't leave me four hours. The crinkle-cut fries were crisp on the outside and fluffy-soft inside, and flavoured with chicken salt...not bad. The staff were friendly, but they forgot our shakes, and did apologise because of it.

tried to order a jacks burger from deliveroo and was advised that they are no longer delivering jacks burgers. jacks is far better than marys and they need to come up with an alternative arrangement - menulog, uber, foodora ect. devastated.

I read about the mixed reviews of Jack's and decided to give it a try, the only way to find out right?<br/><br/>I was surprised to find it pretty quiet at 1:15pm on a Saturday. There were only two other couples so only six people including my partner and me. No one else come in during our stay.<br/><br/>We ordered what we are here for, Cheeseburger and fries. The Cheeseburger tasted nice, the pattie was juicy but slightly salty to my liking. But it was let down by the buns. I remember a reviewer mentioned slightly toasted buns, but ours were cold like they have been taken out of the fridge and slightly chilled. Cold to the mouth. They were soft but spongy soft rather than fluffy soft but certainly not toasted.<br/><br/>The big let down was the fries. They were nicely crisped but only lukewarm to the touch. The crinkle cuts fries did not have nice potato taste but tasted like cheap frozen packaged fries from the supermarket. They were slightly oily and the oil tasted slightly unpleasant. This was one of the few times the fries were left half finished. We were really disappointed with the quality.<br/><br/>We had a coffee after Jack's at Campos Coffee. Even after that the unpleasant taste of the fries lingered and we have to get some mints to get rid of the taste.<br/><br/>I guess Jack's is no longer the popular joint it once was. At least not the day we tried. There are much better choice in Newtown, just head over to Mary's or as the previous reviewer suggested, the Marlborough hotel just opposite.

Located along a slip road to Newtown, Jack's can be pretty busy during weekends. You can find the menu at the blackboard on the side of the restaurant. The burger was plain average and the patty was dry. If you were craving for burgers, you might just want to walk across to Marlborough Hotel. Their burgers are better in my opinion.

After spending quite some time in NYC and being a big fan of Anthony Bourdain, I am somewhat influenced by his methods to test for a good burger. He believes a burger must be simple, not overcomplicated, you can eat it in one hand, it must be made up of good quality meat and the cheese must be meltable! As far as I can see Jack has nailed it in all areas! Obviously the reason for such a popular spot on Missenden Road, Newtown. So the queues are no longer as long as when they first opened but the regulars keep coming back for what they know and love!

Have been wanting to try Jack's for a while & when I finally got around to it, I was not disappointed. The menu is straight forward with 4 beef burger variations and now a chicken burger which was on a sign saying now available. I opted for the double cheeseburger and fries. The burger had 2 delicious, juicy beef patties and 2 slices of melted cheese. It didnt taste greasy and you didnt feel sick after eating this burger. The bun was light, slightly sweet & lightly toasted. I really enjoyed it. Then there were the crinckle cut fries which you dont see often nowadays. It came out piping hot, crunchy and all the grooves in the chips caught all the seasoning that were on them. It was again delicious and addictive. A new store has opened at Miranda Westfields and seems quiet at lunch times which is a pity for the atmosphere as the burgers and fries were enjoyable and perfect with a beer.

Went to Jack's on a Saturday night, I ordered straight away and had to wait about 10 minutes for them to freshly cook my burger. We ordered a cheeseburger and double cheeseburger with a side of fries. The burgers were juicy, well seasoned and cooked perfectly with the meat pink in the centre. The buns were soft but held together and the burger had a special Jacks sauce that complimented the burger. The fries are crinkle cut with a nice seasoning salt and great crunch. One of the top 5 burgers in the Sydney market.

Dined at the Miranda branch for a 2nd time today. Burger took a long time to come out (despite being quiet), the first bite unfortunately identified why as it takes a LONG time to over cook meat that much. Looking around all other customers had the same problem. When you only have 3 things on the menu, you need to make sure you do them well. Only rated 1.5 as luckily the fries were nice. We won't be back.

Finally got to grab a burger from Jack's in Newtown. I had heard a lot of mixed reviews of the place and was keen to make up my own mind. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and loved it. The patties were deliciously juicy and the buns were sweet and soft clouds of joy - pretty sure they were brioche buns or maybe a brioche/ potato bun combination. I also loved it was a smaller sized burg and not the uber monster burgs of late, I found them very similar to Royal Stacks or Mary's.<br/>Now while the burger was great the menu is incredibly basic. They offer about eight items in total and only three burgers (it could be four), they have no chicken burger and no other sides besides fries. And the annoying part of my visit - with two people in the venue I was told at 1230pm they had sold out of fries. Uncool. I do believe in thirty minutes of operation no burger store in the world should be out of fries.<br/>I would rate the burger a 4/5 but but there really isn't many things going for the venue.

Came here for some lunch with friends. We ordered the cheeseburger, double cheeseburger and some fries. The prices were abit high for cheeseburgers, and the wait was slightly long. However, friendly service and also great cheeseburgers. I especially enjoyed the chips - which were very crispy, and the buns - which were very soft. The jacks sauce also tasted just like McDonald's big mac sauce. Overall, a very decent place for burger cravings.

The menu is pretty simple, choice of either a Cheeseburger, Bacon Cheeseburger or Veg Burger. It's all you really need though, the burgers are done well and are pretty satisfying! I also love the frozen custard shakes! The seating is pretty limited on busy periods like Saturday evenings so get in there early. Would recommend if you're in the area!

Just the thought of these burgers makes me excited like a little kid! Jack makes exactly the kind of burger I always want but can never seem to get anywhere else. The menu is pretty limited - double or single cheeseburger, with or without bacon. But what else do you need?! The patties are juicy medium-rare, the cheese is melty and delicious...just the best.

“Did we just drive an hour through traffic just to try a burger?” It all started when my boyfriend’s co-worker said the best burger he ever had was from Jacks in Newtown. I googled it and read posts about how in their first weeks of opening there were massive lines and it was constantly selling out. That was enough to convince us and one weekend we set out to Newtown to try to discover that they were closed! Let down, we forgot about trying Jacks for a few months until we tried burgers from Bar Luca and as I mentioned in a previous post it officially put me on the burger bandwagon and we were curious to see if Jack’s could beat it. So that’s how we found ourselves in bumper to bumper weekend traffic.

Mmmmm... This IS a tasty burger! <br/>Don't bother with marys. The only reason I'll ever go back to marys is if I want a beer with my burger. The burgers at jacks are very similar to Mary's... Just 27 times better!! Not a cheap burger... But certainly not a disappointing burger.

Finally, I tried this place out. I was cautiously optimistic about Jacks as there are some very mixed reviews. It's also been compared to Mary's a lot and I think Mary's is worse than Maccas. I was pleasantly surprised. There's a lack of (read: no) chicken burgers on the menu, so the standard cheeseburger it was! The bottom bun began falling apart about midway through, though, because there was sauce smeared on it. weep.<br/><br/>Would certainly try again.

Why the hate? This place gets stomped on by that Fatties group on FB so i decided to try it out. Why the drama? It's really not bad. The burger was pretty decent. It was juicy, good proportions, nice buns and hella good patty. I was annoyed that the chips didn't come with the burger so you have to order it separately but that's really no biggie. Just a tad overprice in my opinion but I would probably come again.

A good American style burger. Super moist, dripping with cheese and greasy as can be. Had to go for a long walk after but they balance the right amount of salad and meat n cheese. The only vice would be the seasoning in the meat patty- I couldn't taste any! But the jacks sauce made up for it. I just wish they would give more than what we paid for- 2 dollars for the tiniest tub. Crinkle cut chips were delicious and reminded me of an American diner experience. Being from LA, I'm critical on the burgers that I find here and sometimes just crave a simple cheeseburger with a good meat patty. This place ALMOST hit the spot :) I would come back tho as it's better than some of the neighbouring burger joints

I had a craving for a burger so since this was close by and by all accounts keeps getting compared to Shake Shack, I had to give it a try. When I arrived the place was heaving with people getting their share of a burgers, fries and shakes. I thought why not and decided to sample all three. They have a limited menu which keeps it simple for them as when busy it takes a while for them to get through all the orders. Line up, order and pay at the counter then your name is called when your meal is ready. The service was nice enough.<br/><br/>I went with a Double Bacon Cheeseburger (at $17 is not cheap) and it was nice but not the best burger I have tasted. The potato bun was too small for the burger and not heated so detracted from the burger. It was a messy burger to eat as you had the patties going everywhere with the sauce and the crispy bacon. I went through quite a few serviettes cleaning my fingers from the sauce. Again this compounded due to the fact they need larger buns. <br/><br/>The Fries ($5) were nice and crispy and the crinkle cut variety of chips. I had forgone Jack's Sauce (which I think was in the burger) and stuck to the ketchup they had for free. <br/><br/>I had the Vanilla Frozen Custard Shake ($6 for small). This was thick, creamy, and everything I wanted out of the shake and probably my favourite part of the meal.<br/><br/>I guess when it is hyped up so much you raise your standards a lot. Overall cost of $28 is not cheap. It is decent enough and guess I stand in the middle where I don't think it is horrible but not exactly rave worthy.

Simple menu for simple satisfaction. More often I prefer plants to meat these days, however threw in the towel after constant attempts to convince me that Jack's are delicious. They weren't wrong. I'm not huge on burgers but the first bite, even into a 15 minute delivered Jack, hits all the expected high notes of a decent burger.<br/><br/>Tender, Juicy, with a pink fleshy pattie, and you can actually taste all the elements. The burger has the right ratios and balanced well - hello Pickles! Jack's understand the beauty of a basic, traditional burger, rather than morphing it into some Burgenstein creation with additions of whatever flavour of the month Sydney is loving at whatever time. <br/><br/>Steer away from the double if you're getting these bad boys delivered, as they don't travel all too well.

Like most burger joints nowadays, the menu is small and straight to the point. We were there for lunch, and although there was a constant flow of customers, there was always seating available.<br/><br/>We decided to try the cheeseburgers ($10 each) and add on some chips ($5). The crinkle cut chips are nice and crunchy, but were way too salty like some have mentioned. The burgers are not the typical cheeseburgers with only a meat patty and melted cheese, these also came with lettuce, tomato and some pickles - just the way I like them. Burgers aren't big, but I really enjoyed them. Simple, but really tasty.<br/><br/>The only thing this place is lacking is the atmosphere. It is a great spot for lunch or a quick feed, but not a place to linger like a bar or diner. I would recommend coming here for lunch, rather than for dinner. Overall, I am not sure why there are many reviews with ratings so low. I have tried all sorts of burgers near and far, and the burgers here deserve more than just a 1 or 2 rating.

My new favourite burger place! Haters gone' hate! <br/>I cannot fault the bacon cheeseburger, all the elements on it made it a flavour bomb. The Jack's sauce is like a pimped Russian dressing with a nice spice to it. Their Vic's meat blended 80-20 meat-to-fat ratio patty was deliciously juicy and had a great flavour. I felt like I was turning into infamous YouTube fast food reviewer Dayum Drops while I ate the burger and in my head i started thinking 'DAYUMMM! DAYUUMM! DAYUMMMM!'. It was a bit greasy because of the bacon, but that's a small price to pay for perfection. I loved the crispy crinkle cut chips too, get Jack's sauce on the side for an extra $2 and you'll be wishing you could buy it bottled. People complaining that the burger falls apart and the buns are weird don't get it - it's an American style burger and this is how it's meant to be. <br/>No line when i went, but we did have to wait a few minutes till there were spare seats, no biggie though. NOTE: They also have bottled coke.

Ok let's get one thing straight first up ... the burgers are terrible, the mince meat quality very poor oozing with fatty grease, no seasoning, just awful. I can't believe I paid $48 for two woeful fatty double cheeseburgers, burnt to a crisp chips and drinks. The hype about this joint, is more hysteria me thinks. Where does one start, firstly you notice the burger bun, it looked like it was found via the process of a dumpster dive, as unappealing as it looked (not smartly formed as a Grill'd or even a McDonalds bun) it had what looked like finger pokes in it, and the bun was COLD, not toasted not even room temperature! This certainly interfered with the overall temperature of the burger, which was a state. It was simply a pile of greasy fatty mush, when I picked it up it all just fell apart in my hands, the mince patty meat was dull grey and lifeless, it tasted as such. The chips, how depressing, they were tasteless, no salt or any 'original' seasoning like some better known establishments, the chips were overcooked, and to make it sadder no BBQ sauce on offer, so I could not disguise the disappointment! My experience was such a shock, like I was just robbed at gunpoint, I felt really shocked that I had spent $48, it was a kick in the guts as I loudly admitted that even at McDonalds, the burgers are better, the options, the taste, and the quality the atmosphere is better at Maccas. At Jacks the seating is like it's atmosphere uncomfortable, cramped, rickty. This Jacks is no Grill'd, so why are they asking the extreme $15 a double cheeseburger?! The cooking area is very small, chaotic and right in front of you, they have a garbage bin placed unhygienically in the middle of their cooking area they all dance around, I further noted that the same person who took my order and payment also came out and cleared my table, then went back and handed me the food. Somewhere in this chaos I got food poisoning, as I went after to the Deny cinema within 30mins I was on the bog, I spent half the movie on the toilet, this was no fun!

So I decided to try this place because of all the hype and I'm sorry to say that I was a bit disappointed. The service is great and the food is served really quickly but I didn't like the burgers The burger patty I got was quite raw. I eat medium rare steaks all the time but it was a bit gross looking at my blood soaked bun plus the patties had load of gristle in them. Glad I tried it, but won't be going back.

Visited on a saturday and expected a wait.. Food was ready pretty quick. I wanted to like Jack however was disappointed :( .. The hype was disappointing (reviews) on walls outside. Shake was good however had to wait for it to soften. We ordered 2 cheese burgers and fries (👍).. Burgers were small, sloppy and was messy to eat. Hope to return to give Jack another go but i am afraid i wont be rushing ..

Not the fanciest or graceful looking burger. In fact, it was rather sloppy. The top bun was half torn off and the lettuce was more out than in. But I guess rustic is good when it comes to burgers. Taste was pretty good. Nice soft bun which held together quite well, a decent amount of veggies, and a tasty patty. Note that the patty is cooked right through. Not sure if they cook to a medium rare if you ask for it or not. If I had any complaints, I'd say it was a tad small. Smaller than the other burgers around town. Enjoyed the burger but only because there was no queue. Don't think I'd queue up extensively for it. (Note: took a good 10+ mins for the (1) burger to come out. Cooked to order so they're not super quick. But I'm ok with that).

Have been to Jacks 3 times now and I have to say each visit I have thoroughly enjoyed it! My Husband and I live an hour away and specifically travel to Newtown to visit Jacks! its our new spot :) we have a small baby and we are always made to feel welcome. As for the Burgers they are Delicious, Juicy and full of flavor. The store has been very clean each visit and we are always quick to be served (we have been both a Saturday and Sunday) Cant wait to visit again!

Jack's Newtown kind of came out of nowhere a few months ago and Sydney food bloggers started calling it Sydney's Shake Shack. I swear, the majority of those bloggers have never been to Shake Shack in their lives because the only two similarities Jack's Newtown has to Shake Shack in terms of food is a potato bun and crinkle cut fries. That being said, the burgers here are my kind of burger and kind of take a page out of the cooking methods of Smashburger in the US, where the beef starts as a ball and is smashed (flattened) down on the grill. I ordered the double.<br/><br/>80/20 beef from Vic's Meat, Jack's sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle.<br/><br/>It goes without saying that potato buns are my all time favourite for burgers, as I grew up on them. Jack's emulates these perfectly, and along with the 80/20 beef this is an extremely juicy and flavourful burger. Jack's sauce is a mix of honey mustard, mayo, and some extra seasoning and adds another element to the burger but kind of overshadows the lettuce, tomato, and pickle. The downside to this burger is it's on the small side, so even a double may not fill you up, but it's a small one that packs a taste bomb.<br/><br/>Catch them everyday but Monday.<br/><br/>Beef: 4.5<br/><br/>Bun: 4.7<br/><br/>Toppings: 4.3<br/><br/>Overall: 4.5/5

Very close to where I live so decided to drop in on a Tuesday evening. Despite the reviews this place has gotten, it is always packed as it was when I went. <br/><br/>I got the cheese burger with bacon and a side of chips. I was quite surprised at how small the burger was. But it tasted quite good and I wasn't too hungry for a big one anyway. <br/>

Went here for a late lunch on Saturday, the place was still buzzing with people and the burger waiting time took more than 30 minutes.. Bun was soft and fluffy, meat was juicy but all the burgers were served messy and look disarranged! To be honest their crinckle cut fries was the only thing I enjoyed much..

Perhaps one of the worst burgers I've had in a while. Whether hype overstated expectation or simply, it was that bad is a mute point. So lets dissect; the patty was poorly seasoned leaving a iron-mineral after taste, somewhat like overcooked liver. The sauce was a little creamy, little sweet and a little tang but nowhere pleasant. The cheese and pickle were fair but sad to say, the bun was the highlight. And for a tenner, way, way to x-ey. So, what about the fries, you ask, well I don't like fries but if I had to, I'd choose crinkle cuts. However, never cold,dry and over seasoned ones. Richly disappointing, more so with the reflux. Too many better options to waste a treat at Jacks!

Crap burger. Had the double bacon cheeseburger and fries. Burger was bland and the bun soggy. The fries tasted old and reminded me of own brand frozen fries.<br/>Definitely won't be going back there again.<br/>Not recommend.

Would be best to halve your expectations...Jacks Newtown (or the media) claims to be the Shake Shack of Sydney. Why not copy an existing billion-dollar business? did they name Jacks to rhyme with Shack, apparently not it is owned by a Jack. The ingredients are sourced from fancy producers all around Sydney, read more PR blab here. Eating in is quite uncomfortable. They went literal with the decoration with their shack colorbond inspired counter. Minimalist works sometimes but to be honest in terms of comfort, Maccas is 10x better and cleaner too. Did I mention there was no air conditioning? The food had better be extraordinary to make up for it.

Been here a couple of times now and each time has been very good. Some other reviews talk about big lines but I must have been lucky as haven't ever had to wait long to be served or get food. The burgers are simple and delicious. The fries come in generous servings (would share one between two). All up I would highly recommend!

Even if the legendary shack shack opened their doors here people would still find a way to give poor reviews. <br/>HONEST REVIEW - burgers are quite expensive and on the small side. Recommend the double patty as this was quite filling at $15 for the burger by itself<br/>The burger itself is delicious with Melty cheese and the meat is cooked very well (medium rare). The jacks sauce is unique, mustardy with a tang. They charge $2 for a side of it bough and the side is small. However, I was given 2 free sides of it at no charge when I asked for extra sauce on my burger. Fries are fries, not the best, not the worst. Would take the burger any day over Mary's but not as good as Mister G's.<br/>If you're into an American style messy burger this will satisfy our cravings.<br/>Rating based purely on the burger itself

Our first visit to Jacks Newtown was a fail. They’d closed the store due. We were desperate to give their burgers a taste. Don’t be surprised if there is a queue to get in. We waited about 30 minutes on line. Luckily we managed to secure a table after we ordered. Tables seemed to turn over quite quickly. The staff were friendly, despite being swamped with customers.

Popped in here for a burger whilst in the area. I ordered the cheese burger. It was ok but very small especially when you are paying $10 just for a burger. What I found particularly strange was that you have to pay an extra 20c for tomato sauce. Really? It's amazing how something so small can really put a customer off. Not likely to receive a return visit from myself. I think I would have been better off paying Pub Life a visit in their pop up shop at deus ex machina.

Well went here we had two double cheese burgers fries and two drinks plus the sauce?? Anyhoo $50 for two cheeseburgers obviously owned by some young person who thinks get ditch quick is the go. Burgers a soggy bland mess, fries crinkle cut frozen, sauce from a bottle 2$ a tiny serve and watered down soda.... A real let down... I heard should have gone to Mary's a few times while I was there. Expensive bland greasy not very imaginative. They did thank me for clearing up my own table before I sat down.

I've come here many times and have had a good meal each time. I have no idea why the other reviews are all so harsh... It is honestly one of my favourite burgers. It is juicy and soft and just all-round delicious! The sauce is also super tasty! The crinkled hot chips were a great side too. They even provide wet towels which I thought was a wonderful idea.

Jacks has a lot of hype and after attempting to dine there on various occasions and it being closed due to burgers being sold out i had very high expectations. Unfortunately, my experience was average. Chips were cold and burger was bland. I got the cheeseburger and immediately regretted not getting the bacon cheeseburger after my first bite due to the lack of flavour. Great concept but needs a lot of improvement on quality and taste.

A nice idea to use an existing empty restaurant for a no frills start up, but not well executed. The premises are hot in summer and at peak time the shop is crowded, noisy and hot.<br/>The burgers are basic but also nothing special. I watched the cook shake enough salt on each beef patty to literally turn each one white. Combine with some salty fatty cheese and mayo, sure it gives it flavour but not because of clever cooking but because of the simple and cheap trick of lots of salt and fat.<br/>Uninspiring burger, slow service and basic premises. A shame really as the idea of a no frills fit out in an existing shop with a simple menu should allow perfection. Not a place to come and chill for a burger experience.

There was no holding back so I opted for their double cheeseburger ($15). It had double beef patty, two sexy melted cheese, lettuce, tomato and a special sauce. All held in a soft potato bun. It was nothing short of excellent!

The concept is smart, the delivery is a shocker. Burger Project / Chur Burger please come to Newtown. These guys will be out of business in 3 months. The burger is utterly bland and incredibly poor value for money - tiny portions, , the fries so so. The service is appalling, 8 staff behind the counter, only 1 of them is working - WHY ? there are amazingly 20 people queuing up to get in - CRAZY. This was a waste of time and money, never again.

I stood in line for 30 min for a burger (granted, it was the same day as Newtown Festival). When ordering, I asked the guy if the burgers are cooked Well Done. He says yeah. I get my burger, and it is Medium-Medium Well. The tomato slices were placed on the bottom of the bun, so between the tomato juice and the meat juice, the bun is super soggy. Also, the bun, while being good quality, is far too small. I'm not kidding, McDonalds hamburger buns are bigger. My $3 small soda is filled only 4/5 full with no ice. I hand it back and ask for it to be filled up all the way. Instead of self-serve tomato sauce, they put out tiny cups and squirt sauce in only about 1/3 full, so I have to take 2 cups and still don't have enough sauce. Couple this with the cost of $20 for burger, fries and soda, and it was quite disappointing. I also don't need a huge thing of fries for $5. Why not give half as much and charge +$3 when added to a burger? Not a bad burger really, but not worth the price or the hype.

Okay, so I'm sure you've heard all the hype about Jack's, well so had we, so we thought it was about time we went and found out what all the fuss was about. After about a twenty minute wait, I ordered the double cheeseburger with bacon and a side of fries. The burger was actually pretty good. The potato bun was soft, the patty struck the right balance between meat and fat and was cooked to a perfect medium, the bacon was smokey and crispy, and the sauce was creamy-tangy. The fries were also surprisingly good too; crunchy and salty as they should be. Would I go back? Sure, as long as there's no line.

This would be our second visit upon writing this review. The first time we visited, Jack's had the basics right - pillowy soft buns that were still sturdy enough not to disintegrate as you ate and good quality meat patties cooked to a perfect medium. Couple these with their sauce and oh, that melted cheese!

Overhyped beyond belief. 30min wait in line to order and another 30min wait for the food to arrive. The burger is tiny and the pattie was overcooked. It had a crusty layer on the outside and was dry on the inside. They also ran out of shakes. <br/><br/>For the same money I could have gone to Dean's burger and got twice the amount of food, better cooked and not wait as long.

The burgers at Jacks Newtown are not worth the hour long wait but then again, not many dishes in the world are. Nor are the burgers “Shake Shacky”. What they are, however, are good burgers with a good foundation, plagued with the usual launch quality and operational issues that most new restaurants experience. A walk-don’t-run proposition, either go early or late, or wait a few months for the hype and the lines to die down.

the burgers are pretty good at jack's - succulent pattie, soft buns, oozy cheese. but the place is let down by the ridiculously slow service (perhaps to inflate the lines), grubby surroundings, and most of all the poor ventilation that makes you feel like you are sitting in a giant chip fryer

Sorry but I did not like it much at all. The burger size was small - about the size of my fist. The patty was unseasoned and tasteless. There was no sauce on the cheeseburger. Even the lettuce and tomato was bland. You would probably need 2-4 burgers to get full. The strawberry soda was light and not very flavoured like they only did a half pump of drink mixture into the soda. Don't come here post gym.

You’ve got to love a click bait headline – Good Food knows how to drive traffic when it outs an article called “Is this Sydney’s Best Burger?” Probably not, but ask the question anyway and the traffic will come. However, in burgerland, the words “Shake Shack” is legendary, and by no means is it click bait to say that Shake Shack is the inspirational fuel behind newly opened Jack’s Burgers.

So excited about this new addition to the Newtown food scene! The line was hectic but the burger was definitely worth the wait. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries. The meat was juicy and the sauce was perfection. I didn't expect to like the crinkle cut fries but they were the perfect addition to the meal. The hype for Jack's is well deserved.
