Sidekicks Cafe

Since I was in Nashville, I decided to eat things for lunch that I would never eat, or maybe even have access to, at a place in St. Louis: housemade pimento cheese and pink stuff. Yep. I got a pimento cheese and bacon sandwich on toasted sourdough, and it was pretty darned good! The bacon was super crunchy next to the creamy pimento cheese, the lettuce on top was fresh and crisp, there was also a tomato on it, and it all made my mouth very happy. I still can’t get over how very crunchy, but not burnt, the bacon was! It made the sandwich. Sadly, after I placed my order online, I got a call saying that they were out of pink stuff. How can you be out of pink stuff? What is pink stuff? I guess I will never know!! I substituted a fresh made cherry turnover instead, which I ended up being very happy with. The pastry was soft, moist and flaky, and it was filled with real cherry filling, not that bright red gooey stuff you sometimes find such things. My order was brought out to my car quickly after I arrived, and the waitress was wearing a mask, which I found satisfying.

I wrote this review before I ate lunch here, the first time I ever sat down and ate here. I would like to add that the service is absolutely outstanding! Best coffee I have ever had (southern pecan is my favorite so far), food and service is always great as well. I wish I found this place sooner, only been about 3 times now. I live in NC but travel to Nashville several times a year and this is now a favorite spot. I need to try and order the coffee online because it is always a little depressing when I run out and am not going to Nashville soon.

I normally have a good experience here, but today was a little off. I ordered 2 drinks and 2 muffins. Apparently, the flavor of muffin I wanted was not available, and a substitution was made. Cool. But I wasn't contacted (via a phone call) about the substitution. I called and let them know what happened, and the lady I spoke to was very nonchalant about it, and didn't even offer to have me come in and get the flavor I wanted at a later date. Call people and make sure they're ok with the substitution please! ***I also waited quite a while for my order, and when the person sauntered out to give it to me, there was no apologies for the wait***

Here for the first time and this place is super quaint and I can tell it is run and operated by someone that loves what they do. Coffee is great and I got the Loaded Biscuit with Country Ham and it was out of this world. The biscuit was made from scratch and the meat is local. Highly recommend for a small local restaurant experience.

Biscuits were hard and dry. Ketchup served in saucer was stored for long period of time refrigerated, as it took good effort to extract. Our food and those around us had missing food so much that the very unkind server had to go back several trips. Came for the good reviews, have to leave a rough one for those coming forward.
