Raw + Rice

Our first ever visit to Raw + Rice today and what a great decision it turned out to be! To keep things simple as they were verging on closing time, my wife and I ordered straight from the suggestion bowls - a chicken bowl (half mixed greens, half brown rice base) for me and a soy tofu bowl (half quinoa, half mixed greens base) for her, accompanied by a bottle of kombucha each. There was a slight delay with service as there was only a single staff member working. She was fantastic though, super-friendly and doing her best to accommodate a sizeable order. Soon after, a second staff member returned to work and offered assistance. From there, it was smooth sailing and we were quickly served. He too was chatty and friendly, making small talk as he adeptly and confidently prepared our order. As for the bowls themselves, they were awesome! We have eaten bowls across many parts of SEQ and these were close to, if not the best we've had. Fresh, loaded with flavour, healthy and just through-and-through delicious. Love the wasabi mayo! Although some reviewers are critical of price, I was happy to pay the $18 per bowl for a nourishing, filling and tasty lunch. Bear in mind that ingredients, labour, storefront overheads, etc., quickly take a bite out of profits. Fresh, tailored meals will generally cost you more than mass-produced rubbish. Like most places when they first open attention to detail goes into the buisness. When you sell food that is easily made from home it needs to be bang on. This unfortunately is not the case for this shops today 2022. Staff will let the business down every single time with attitude and food preparation and presentation. I feel for business's like this.

Got two large bowls with salmon and the portioning (especially the amount of salmon - one small scoop) is quite disappointing considering the price you pay ($17.90). It also doesn’t seem like there’s a notable difference between the way they make their regular and large except for the size of the container and a bit of extra rice (or other base). A lot of add-ons are also unavailable. I was very keen to try out this place but unfortunately I left there feeling rather disillusioned.

Food is great. I come here every visit to Mooloolaba. Prices are 15% more than they need to be or serving size needs to be 15% bigger. Service is friendly. Every time I come there is only one staff member. A think they need 2-3 people during lunch time. Coincidence or not, during the lunch hour waiting can be up to 20 minutes to get a bowl. If there was a more efficient service I would give this place 4.5 stars.

So unbelievably nutritious and fresh - even at 4 pm in the afternoon! I ordered the large but struggled to finish it because it was that filling. I was also after the Tuna bowl but the lovely guy who served us said the fishermen didn't catch any tuna that morning and had caught trout instead. Nice to know that all of their ingredients - even down to the fish, are fresh DAILY. Love this place, would highly recommend for a healthy eat-out option!

1 Star. I would normally be happy to pay for overpriced food if it is fresh but there was not one fresh vegetable in my bowl and the salmon was warm and looked like it had been sitting there all day. Thankfully the ponzu and sesame tahini sauces somewhat masked the food enough for me to be able to eat it, although I felt so sick when I got home that it all ended up coming back up. All for $17.90. It is safe to say I will not be coming to Raw and Rice again.
