Charlotte's

My wife and I were a first time visitor to this restaurant. The meal, including the bread and butter was excellent, portion was sufficient. Plating impressive. Service friendly, polite, efficient, but perhaps could use a little more training. The price I would judge as rather high, or about $10 more then average for an entre. I did not care for the "high tech tablet" type tip and payment process. It lowers the standard of a fine restaurant. If the price is of no concern to you, I do recommend this restaurant.

Okay, here it goes. First off, this is not my first time at Charlotte’s. Maybe close to ten years ago. It was quite nice, but pricey. I treated my mother and her two friends to a 2:00 PM meal on Palm Sunday. Reservations were made last week. We were seated at a table in the main dining room just off the parking lot. That’s the entrance BTW, not the big front door. It was locked. I ordered the chicken and sausage Gumbo. Mom ordered White shrimp pasta Alfredo, her friend’s got the grilled chicken sandwich off the brunch menu and her mother got the pork gravy and biscuits with scrambled eggs. It took forty minutes for our food to come to the table. The jasmine rice in the center of my plate was rock hard in the form of a cup. I could not break it apart. The friend’s mother’s eggs were cold. My Mom’s shrimp and pasta were lukewarm. The chicken sandwich appeared to be without incident. I informed the older woman who I’d suppose was the closest thing to a manager about this. “Do you want me to take back the eggs and warm them up for you?” Warm up eggs, at these prices? You cook up another plate of eggs. You’re kidding me right? The rice was greeted with a flat stare. It seemed like the staff, two young girls and this manager walked about but studiously avoided eye contact. You almost had to grab them to get their attention. The left over food was not offered to go in any fashion. The bill came on a tablet with four rather generous tip options just a tap away. I informed the manager there would be a cash tip. She pointed to the rather small smal “no tip” option at the bottom. $168 and I left a $25 cash tip that frankly, was too much. It seems that during the pandemic many of these places, for whatever reasons, are shadows of their former selves. Not going back again. (We were not asked how the meal was, begged for coffee refills, nothing about come again. Perhaps relief that we were leaving. Strange atmosphere. No music. I got the impression they were short handed and putout)

Delicious food with that made-from-scratch authenticity. Lovely rustic décor including a paint job purposely designed to appear worn. Numerous fine wines and ports, plus domestic and imported beer in bottles. Mahogany bar with two tables, otherwise there is a dining room with around seven tables. There is also a room for special catered events. Idyllic garden with a spectacular view to the adjoining ranch, which must make for pleasant al fresco dining in season. Bathrooms nicely decorated, and there is fast wi-fi. Parking out front.

Went here for mother's day with my 2 sons 6 and 3. Food was awesome and ambiance was great as well. Only downside was our poor server had too many tables and while she was running around with her head cut off, there was a huge wait for our main dish to be cleared and dessert ordered. Also didn't ask to refill drinks much. Other than that it was great. Will try again.

I’m sorry to say that after 7 years of having a place in the area somehow Charlotte’s was not on our radar. What a mistake. Just pulling up we knew something special was in order. It doesn’t hurt that our youngest is also named Charlotte. Our server Christine was prompt, friendly and went out of her way to make sure we had a great experience. The food was delicious, dish after dish. From the crab cakes to clam chowder, Chilean sea bass and the jambalaya. All excellent. And they happened to have a bottle of 1992 Grgich Hills Cabernet for a fantastic price. After a wonderful meal we received a short tour of the building and we left very satisfied but a teeny bit sad we haven’t been here before!
