Kobe

We used to have a Japanese Steakhouse that was very similar to this one in Brownsville. Unfortunately, not enough people appreciated good. "To expensive" was the most common reason I'd hear. My opinion is that the food was priced accordingly. It's delicious and filling. I'm glad I was driving in McAllen and just happened to run into it. I had to stop. I must say. I wasn't disappointed. Only reason I have it 4/5 starts is because I thought the noodles were not up to par. Everything else was amazing.

Went to Kobe expecting a delicious and good experience. There was cockroaches on the Hibachi table, and the place was empty. the chef did not know how to prepare medium rare steak for my boyfriend and I. He served it well done. The server was not attentive. Overall we were extremely dissatisfied and when addressed to the manager he had said they had fumigated the place before but that roaches still were alive. Unbelievable how it is still open to the public.

Rolls, rice and drinks are delish! Service not great 👎 First he forgets to bring out and put in the order for my appetizer then forgets to check up on us it we needed a refill or a box to go. Waiter was nice but was not on his A game if I have to ask for a refill. Will be back but hopefully with a different server.

I'm Japanese American and recently moved to McAllen, Tx from San Diego, CA. I grew up eating Japanese cuisine including sushi both at home and a variety of restaurants in San Diego. I hope this helps give some perspective to this review. I have been wanting to try and find a place that has good fresh sushi here in the valley since moving here and finally decided to try Kobe. Google reviews were favorable but Yelp was not. I went for lunch on a Saturday with my mom while she was visiting. The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived but it was just after opening and did fill up some while we were dining. We wanted sushi so we did not sit at the hibachi grill. (no review on that at this time) They had a very large selection of rolls and sushi. Prices were about what to expect for good sushi. We ordered two different rolls (double crunchy roll & naruto roll with rice, its available low cab without rice), two orders of tekka maki (tuna & spicy tuna), and miso soup. Everything was done very well, the fish was fresh, soup was good not THE best but just fine, the tekka maki was much larger than usual (normally bite size, these were about three times larger). They definitely do not skimp out of the fish or the size of the rolls. Atmosphere was unusual a weird mix of traditional Japanese and contemporary but everything was neat and clean, no weird smells. The staff was friendly and our server was attentive but not overly so. With the change to the naruto roll they double checked with my mom on exactly how she wanted it instead of just making it how they thought she might want it. They gave us a survey card at the end of our meal to evaluate the restaurant and they also have a rewards program. I would definitely visit again. One down side was that they do not offer any kind of lunch specials or even a lunch menu on Saturdays, I assume the same holds true on Sundays as well. They do have a 2 x 1 price on rolls during the week days.

The quality of food and speed of service was fine. The staff sat me, took my order and served my food very quickly. However, the staff didn't speak to me once they took my order. The food came out and was sat on my table in front of me. No "can I get you anything else" or "how is everything tasting." My drink stayed full, the food was good, everything was fine except for no one spoke once I placed my order.

ONE word DELICIOUS!! I LOVE that the bar area you can smoke indoor and is divided from the restaurant area! And not to forget the happy hour is 5-10pm!! Im going to go every TUESDAY they have a special for 2 sushi rolls for the price of 1 all day.. I was in shock when I saw my tab most definitely going back!!
