Johnny's

This diner is tucked back a little on Yosemite so if you miss it - it is worth the turn around. They were quite busy as most places are on Sunday. The service was friendly, food was well cooked, and the environment was down home. Did have a bit of a wait for the food to arrive as they were down a cook, but staff was attentive and apologetic. I would have another meal there for sure.

I have never been so angry at the way people can be towards another human being. My mom, cousin, and step-dad we're the only customers dining in and there was a man waiting for his pick up order when a homeless man has come in from the heat, he waited patiently to be helped and when he finally was he politely asked if there had been any leftover food that was going to be tossed because he was really hungry to which the lady rudely responded that there was nothing she was willing to give because that would be bad for business, at which time the guy said thank you and turned to leave back out into the heat🤬. The guy waiting for his food called out to the homeless man and told him to come back and to order anything he wanted off the menu he would pay for it, the homeless guy thanked him and all he requested was a hamburger, with some fries, and a cup of milk with some water as well, mind you he could have ordered alcohol but he didn't just some essentials to eat. The homeless man picked a booth and sat, mind you there was only one group sitting at another booth and was not being bothered at all by this man, when the waitress/ manager/ new owner brought the food out it was packed to go. (The food was not ordered to go that's just how she brought it out) the homeless man looked at her confused and said I thought I was going to eat it here she told him he couldn't that it was bad for business and that he had to leave, I have never been so infuriated at how cold and ugly someone could be towards another human being, it was over 100° outside at that point in time and she still made him leave, if the restaurant was busy and people were complaining I could understand maybe some of why the lady was being that way, however neither of those was an issue that day and she was still so mean and cruel to that poor man. My family will no longer patronize that place and I hope nobody else does either just to show that kindness towards all no matter what their life status may be at that moment is worth so much more.

I haven't been here in over 10 years and I was thrilled to drive by and see outside dining taking place during these crazy days. The staff is amazing and makes you feel very welcome to be there. It can get a little cold outside due to the traffic and shade given from the building so prepare for that but isn't great to be sitting and eating again in public, oh yes. I rate the food an 8 and a half out of ten on account of the chicken fried steak being overcooked. The biscuit and gravy was perfect and I love the fact that I was asked if I wanted veggies in my country potatoes which seems to be rare these days. The potatoes were cooked to perfect and the coffee was good and hot. I visit Manteca once a week and I can see myself becoming a regular again. Food portion was plentiful, seating arrangement was adequate for social distancing and the price was fare. Restrooms are open for customers just be careful as it is a bit dark. Glad you guys are open for business can't wait to taste a fresh chicken fried steak next time.
