Uncle Harry's

Y'all. My wife and I pulled off here on the road to Hana for something to snack on. We had the tacos, banana bread and some cookies.. we were blown away by the tacos and went on our way to Hana. We literally turned around once we got there to do the long windy drive AGAIN just to come back for more tacos. The meat wasn't fatty and was unbelievably juicy and tender. The cabbage and tortillas were crispy. All topped with a drizzle of sweet baby rays. It's so simple in terms of ingredients but I'll legitimately be dreaming of these.

Set against the backdrop of the beautiful trail to Hona in Maui, Uncle Harry's Outdoor Marketplace is a testament to the power of simplicity. This roadside hub doesn't need frills or fanciful decor to make an impact. Instead, it captivates with a few picnic tables, a welcoming order window, and an undeniable charm that reflects the real essence of Hawaiian hospitality. The staff at the order window, though perhaps not Uncle Harry himself, welcome you with friendly smiles and an inviting atmosphere. It's a roadside shack, but the warmth of the staff immediately makes you feel at home, serving as a beautiful reminder that genuine hospitality goes beyond grandeur and luxury. The food on offer truly celebrates Hawaiian culinary traditions. Prepared with locally sourced ingredients, each dish, be it the juicy Huli Huli chicken, the flavorful Kalua pork, or the satisfying Loco Moco, offers a taste of the island's rich and diverse cuisine. The outdoor setup is uncomplicated - a few picnic tables under the open Hawaiian sky - but it's this simplicity that amplifies the authenticity of the dining experience. Despite its humble setup, Uncle Harry's Outdoor Marketplace doesn't compromise on service. The staff are attentive, ensuring you feel looked after from the moment you place your order to the time you leave. In a nutshell, Uncle Harry's Outdoor Marketplace is all about rustic charm and sincerity. It doesn't rely on the gloss of modern restaurants or the allure of fancy decor. Instead, it wins hearts with its genuine food, earnest service, and a down-to-earth, outdoor setup that lets you enjoy your meal amidst the natural beauty of Maui. Here, the spirit of 'ohana' and 'aloha' is in every detail, creating an experience that's as real and unforgettable as the Hawaiian landscape itself.

Great stop on the road to/from Hana. We stopped on the way back before the crowds swamped it, and the food was tasty and fresh, the one lady working was lovely to chat with, and - although, like most stands on the road to Hana, there was no public washroom - the outdoor sink where you could wash up after eating was much appreciated. If they've got the malasadas, GET THEM. These are Portuguese/Hawaiian donuts served on a skewer and they were heavenly. They are simple (sugar coated), but fresh and perfectly fried, with a lovely, subtle hint of vanilla and rum flavour. Some of the best donuts I've ever had, and I'm from a city that is constantly patting itself on the back for its artisanal donuts. A great little stand and highly recommended, especially if you're craving some naughty hot food.

Each menu item was roughly $10-$17. The quality of the food was great, and it's a good stop on the way to Hana. There are no public restrooms here. The cheese they use is good (although pretty sure it's just american cheese) and the cole slaw is super flavorful. The sauces at the table are great and their malasadas were perfect. The next bathroom location is about 10 minutes away at a state park, and the next food location is about 30 minutes down the road to Hana.
