Shane's Texas Pit

The service was absolutely terrible with the server we had. We never got checked on. We had to flag another girl down to help us out more than once. The food is just okay. The potato salad is wonderful though and I'm picky about that but I used to live in Texas and this is not anywhere close to Texas Cue.. I've never gotten baby back ribs and better yet really small ribs at any Texas BBQ place I've been to. And I've been to many top rated places. I paid $30 for this plate.

Let me start out by saying two things; 1. I was born and raised in Texas and know what good BBQ is..and, 2. I've avoided having any BBQ in New Hampshire until now... We stopped in because 2 other local restaurants that we frequent, were closed. I was skeptical because of all the cowboy stuff hanging on the walls. But, after poring over the menu, settled on my two, favorites...pulled pork and ribs! For sides, I ordered collard greens and potato salad. On a scale of 1-10(10 being West Texas good) I have to admit that Shane's rates a solid 8! Pork was just right, sides were very good and the 4 choices of sauces (mild to very spicy) were great! Our waitress was terrific and knowledgeable and made good recommendations. If you can't go down South or out West for really, really good BBQ, head over to Shane's in Hampton, NH!!!

On a beautiful day, we wanted to eat outside. The "backyard" looks very fun, but you can't get barbecue served out there, so we had to sit under the canopy in the front parking lot. The food was good. It isn't up to Austin standards (we ate a LOT of brisket when we visited Austin), but it is pretty good for New England 'Q. One suggestion ... a lot less cumin would suit my tastes. Service was also good, especially since we were the only ones out front and it required a special trip for the waitress. There were a good selection of different styles of beer on tap and in bottles.

Feels like stepping in an Austin Bar/ bbq joint. Got say down right away, place not too busy on. Friday night. Got drinks right away, didn't even get time to check the drink menu!! The girl, who will remain nameless took our order but didn't write it down. After what it felt too long, we got someone else's order. She quickly fixed it. Sadly the pulled pork sandwich was barely warm. The brisket was delicious. We wish we had a different service experience but for now, it's not worth the 35 minute drive each way. Sorry. The other tables that got the guy server were having what it seems a better time.... oh well

I went to this place based on the good reviews and decent looking pictures. I didn’t expect much given the area and I am not picky but it turned out to be worse than I expected. I ordered a meal combo with brisket, sausage, Mac and cheese, corn bread, and collard greens. The brisket was tender and had a just okay flavor but was dry and covered in a thick layer of fat that seemed to be turning a yellowish green color. The sausage was okay, it also seemed dry somehow and very chewy. The Mac and cheese seemed like velveeta shells with maybe a sprinkle of Paprika for color. It lacked flavor entirely. The corn bread was again dry and tasted sugary, barely any corn taste almost resembles a bland cake with a hard crust. The collard greens weren’t for me personally. I’m not sure how they were supposed to taste but they had a sweet vinegary taste and came in a cup of dark brown liquid. They also barely chopped the leaves so it was like sheets of collard greens instead of pieces you could pick up with a fork and eat. It seems as if everything was prepared and then left out in open air to dry out. And the food came out fairly room temp. The chef did not wear gloves which was a huge turn off. Our waitress was good I’d say that’s the only upside. I only write this honestly in hopes that they can improve on food safety practices, and overall quality of the product. There is definitely potential.

so first off the food was GOOD! I ordered takeout and did have to wait a little but thats okay with me, I was waiting for a short while and then one of the owners came up to me and gave me a gift card for my wait(extremely nice)! get home and find out they forgot my ribs, called them up and the owner who gave me the gift card took the time out of her day and personally drove them to the house, which is 20 mins away! (again extremely nice)!! 🙂 it's tough to find such genuine people and SHE was one! I WILL BE GOING BACK PLENTY OF TIMES IF YOU LIKE BBQ GO HERE!! YOU WON'T DISAPPOINTED!!!
