Lock Iii

We went out to dinner at Tavern On the Lock at 5:30pm on a Friday night. The Prime Rib is their weekend special and I ordered the King cut (but the waitress came back a little later to tell us they were already out of it?, so we switched to the Queen). My wife and I liked our meals (although she ordered the Lobster Au Gratin and it was so incredibly hot she barely touched it - even after it sat at our table for 40-45 minutes... and it was STILL hot when she put it in the to go container!). She also got the crab cakes, which were ok but she would have liked a sauce or some type of garish with it. The people we dined with had the Brussel Sprouts (which they were not a fan of) and the Mac and cheese (which I guess was also so-so). The prices were decent, our waitress was ok (if a bit unpersonable), and the food was between fair and good. There wasn't anything memorable about the meal, nor did anything wow us, but it was solid. We would probably go again if we were in Fulton for some reason, but we wouldn't go out of our way to eat there. The dinning room does look out over the Oswego River and the lock, which does add nicely to the atmosphere.

Our waitress was top notch and we had a lovely time. We arrived at 630pm and the live music outside was cool, but a little too loud for dinner conversation even though we were not in the same section with the musicians. The haddock dinner looked delicious, but my husband said the fish was overcooked and dry. I had a roast beef sandwich and it was also a bit dry, although it was a substantial sandwich for the price. We appreciated that there were some healthy veggie options, such as the salad bar and brussel sprouts, so that was s a big plus! Our friend said his alcoholic drinks he tried were not good, the mojito in particular. I thought it might be good because they had fresh mint, but he was very unhappy with the tiny glass and the taste of the drink. The sunset view was lovely and overall I would recommend this place, although I'd stay away from the food choices we made this time around.

Prices are super reasonable. We got mozzarella sticks, a chicken quesadilla, and the surf n turf burger. I just had a coke, and she had a mixed wine slushy. It was all good! We were happy to have the entire dining room to ourselves for the whole time we were there. We thought it was odd, but the server informed us everyone else chose to eat outside. If I were to give any cons, the place could definitely use a refresh. It's clean, but quite old inside. Minor nitpick, though. I understand how expensive renovations can be.
