Root Public House

1st time in town, was looking for a culinary experience, and boy did we find it at Root Public House. Atmosphere warm and inviting. Server knowledgeable and friendly. I had 5 spice boneless ribs. They were tender and the sauce was amazing. Carrot cake dessert had a different layout but was exceptional. My tastebuds were very happy here! Highly recommend 5 star!!

Wife and I had our 10th anniversary dinner here tonight. We went light and ordered two Shrimp and Grits dishes and the Board (basically a charcuterie) which included goats cheesy, bleu cheese, cheddar with mustard seeds, duck ham, pork belly, pate, and a peach/pecan compote. That was outrageous and an excellent twist with the duck ham. The Shrimp and Grits plate was on the small plates menu. It is simple, grits are great, shrimp cooked well, and it was served with homemade bacon bits, pesto, and a spicy (almost sriracha-style) sauce. Great dish. It is worth visiting if you’re looking for a trendy place in Flagstaff.

Delicious food, albeit slightly pretentious mood when we first walked in. Our group was visiting from out of town and saw that it wasn't super busy, so we walked in. The host greeted us with the phrase "if you have more than four dining with us, you should make reservations in advance," and that does not scream "welcome" loudly, regardless of the swankiness emitting from the dining establishment. Ultimately, we sat at the bar & the bartender was super friendly and accommodating. My friend wanted TWO tiny cheddar biscuits and he hooked her up. I'd probably go again if I were in town (and just skip talking to the host entirely- beeline to the bar seems like a good life choice anywhere you go).

Great space upstairs and downstairs. The cocktails were unique, my husband and I just shared our back and forth. Sat at the bar and the bartender was great to chat with. Didn't realize they closed at 10 but they let us hang out and didn't rush us at all. The food was ok. We did the chicken and egg appetizer. It's pretty spicy so we asked for an aioli and it make it pretty good! Really disappointed in the carrot cake. Tasted more like a lemon cake. But all in all a nice place.
