Bugambilias

I had never been to the restaurant and wanted to do a family reunion in Fairfield. I spoke with the owner and she was very accommodating and made sure it was to my liking. My sister had eaten there before and said the food was yummy. I was very pleased with our experience. My daughter is flying in from Chicago and taking my Mother there since we really enjoy the food and quiet atmosphere. I also love the location. Such a great little street. You really can't get a more satisfying meal for the price! Delicious and pupusas are gluten free!

Coming in around 8pm, the restaurant was nearly empty. The waitress was attentive and brought our drinks promptly. Going to this place for the first time, I ordered tacos as my litmus test. Everything was going fine until we tried the salsa, which had no consistency to speak of. I couldn't tell you if it was good or not, as it was more like a coating I was applying to my chips, rather than a dip. I tried both the carnitas and the asada tacos, and was not disappointed. I feel the need to point out that they are definitely Salvadoran in style. As expected, the beef was more bland than one used to Mexican asada would expect, but the steak carried it's own flavor quite well. The pork was very authentic for the region. Again, a far cry from Mexican carnitas, but well worth trying for that very fact. It was very sweet, tasty and soft enough to fall apart. It was also quite possibly the messiest taco I have ever had. The plate was literally drenched with marinade juice, which I used to sop the carnitas tacos in. Not the best, but certainly worth trying again. I'm hoping that trying one of the house specials will give me better results.

On June 21, 2015 I accidentally dropped my take-out food going out of Bugambilias in Fairfield, Ca. I skinned my knee and had to ask for minor first aid treatment from the staff, even after I showed them my injury of a skinned knee. Instead of offering to replace my food that had been lost, I was told that I needed to pay ½ of the cost to replace it. I told them that I did not think that it was right, and was told that “they” did not drop my food. I refused to pay, and they refunded my money to quickly just get me out of the restaurant, so that the other customers could not hear what was going on. I was furious, and told them that it was not good customer service. They did not care, and was told that since I gotten my money back, I should be fine. I was not fine. They showed no concern over my lost food, and obviously only cared about the money. When I first arrived, they were all-smiles and going out of their way to take care of me, however; when I asked to have my food replaced, their masks came off. They become stone-faced, and did not care one bit about me as a person, or making things right as a customer. They were never rude. They simply did not care. I am 61 years old, and have never in my life seen where food or beverage was spilled, either in the restaurant or outside, that it was not replaced with paying again. This restaurant was insensitive, and greedy. I did not handle this in calm manner, and quite frankly, I simply do not care. Their attitude to me was appalling, apathetic, and emotionless. This type of blatant disregard for superior customer service warrants a reprimand.

This was the second time in a year I'd been in here and I wasn't impressed. There was no sign indicating "wait to be seated" or "seat yourself" so my husband and I stood politely by the door. The seating is spread out and we wanted to make sure we were sign if we did seat ourselves. A waitress did come out of the back and tell us to sit anywhere. We chose a booth along the wall. There were only two other tables taken and a private party that seemed to be winding down in the front room. When we sat we waited for someone to bring us menus...water...chips and salsa...eye contact... I don't know if we waited for 5 minutes or 10 minutes, but the fact that we didn't at least have menus to occupy our time encouraged us to go back out into the rain and find some place else to eat.

THIS REVIEW IS PRIMARILY BASED ON THE SERVICE AND TIME I SPENT WAITING FOR MY FOOD IN WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED. I WENT THERE DURING MY LUNCH BREAK AND I WAITED OVER 30 MIN (LITERALLY) FOR MY FOOD, HAD TO LEAVE BEFORE EVEN GETTING THE FOOD BECAUSE MY BREAK WAS OVER. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED! MAYBE THE FOOD IS GOOD, BUT I DON'T KNOW.
