Steak 'n Shake

2 star workers, 3 star food quality, 5 star prices and 5 star crisp Dr Pepper. Had to stand at the counter for a while before the workers stopped playing around in the kitchen to take my order. She was very confused when I asked for no veggies on the bacon cheese burger (so I ended up getting just the tomato off to stave the confusion.) Crazy thin patties. After a shift change while I was eating, the atmosphere was much improved.

I stop at this place on my way to the lake and have never received my food burnt and cold, not to say the young lady at the window was RUDE!! This was Friday evening 7:15 on April 29th 2022 I will be stopping back on my way home Sunday for a full refund. I would like to know who is managing these young kids. I would not feed this to my Dog, they are really lucky my husband would not turn around for me to confront your team. Judy VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE SERVICE!!

It looks like they smashed my burger into the pavement. It was only partially wrapped and unappealing. The employees were eating and drinking as they were taking my order. Rude!!! They were so busy folding dollar bills into "characters" that cars were waiting at the drive thru unattended. Food handling without gloves or sanitation. Clearly this is a lower management issue. The soda fountain was out on about half the items, condiment trays were empty and no napkins. When I asked for a napkin, the girl had to put her food down and acted like it was an inposition. I feel they intentionally smashed my burger. First and last time I visit one of these restaurants. As a long haul trucker looking to get a meal after driving 600+ miles, disappointment 😞. P.S. 30 minutes after eating half my meal, I have been extremely sick with stomach cramps and throwing up. Now I have suspicion they tainted my food. Even after I put a nice tip in the tip cup. Thanks for the food poisoning. AVOID THIS PLACE!

We stopped in here for one the S & S signature steak burgers and were not disappointed. The staff were all very friendly and the establishment was exceptionally clean. The only drawback to this diner is the location. It's off of US 287 on a frontage road outside of Ennis so it doesn't get a lot of traffic. It's about 4 miles off of I45 but well worth the trip. Come on folks! Take the exit, go the extra miles, and enjoy a really nice but if nostalgia and good food. If you go eat here without trying one of their shakes, you're just robbing yourself. We're going back for certain!

I ordered a burger with Mayo, lettuce, and cheese. Received burger with pickles instead of the requested mayonnaise. I asked kindly for a new burger without pickles. The cook picked the pickles off the burger and gave it back to me. It still reeked of pickles so I asked for another replacement without pickles. The drive thru assistant (with no mask) said to the cook “did you really do that?” Then they started laughing. When the drive thru assistant said my burger was ready, she wouldn’t look me in the eye and kept her head down the whole time. Turned around after she handed it to me, looked at the cook, and they both started laughing. The third burger received had BLACK LETTUCE, 5 times the normal amount of Mayo, likely to cover the pickle smell instead of simply making a new burger. It was atrocious, insulting, and a waste of time. Extremely horrible experience.

Steak 'n Shake was definitely better back in the day. Their shakes are still pretty good and the service here is alright the food is a different story. I've given this place multiple chances already and everytime the bread on my patty melt isn't toasted completely, the garlic burger seemed like it would be good as I'm a fan of garlic but there can be too much of a good thing, this burger tasted like it had been drowned in garlic and salt. I seriously had trouble even eating it. Things just aren't the same as they used to be here and while change can be a good thing in S n' S case, it was for the worse.
