Elgin Bbq Pit

Wow! This place smells great inside. They have a great variety on the menu! The 2 younger individuals working the counter were so nice and answered all of my questions. The prices are fair. The ribs were great....I got a full slab and I got 4 mild sauces on the side. The coleslaw is my personal favorite....big strip of cabbage, a light hint of spice and not too creamy or oily.

We went to Elgin BBQ Pit after watching the show “Chicago Best” and reading reviews from Yelp. We purposely went on Sunday to have their Sunday special “beef short ribs”, but unfortunately this Sunday was not our day. They didn’t have it 😔 only on this Sunday (hence my 4stars). So, we ordered beef rib tips dinner menu, it came with two sides. I should say the bbq was really good, well seasoned, tender and very moist. The portion was quite big for $12.99 (including tax). They gave you extra sauce (sweet, mild and spicy) to go with the meat. The restaurant itself is not that big, I don’t think it can fit big party. But, I overheard the owners kept picking up the phones since people were calling and ordering food for to go. Overall: I highly recommend this local bbq restaurant. Very disappointed with the food. After reading the reviews I thought this place would be awesome, but sadly it was not. The food was either super dry or just tasted weird. I had the wings and they were okay; nice and crispy and the sauce was good. The sides were awful though. The Mac and cheese had no cheese flavor to it and had wayyyy to much pepper. The hush puppies were super dry. My boyfriend had the burnt ends and they were dry with no flavor. He also had the chicken and said it was okay but not something he would have again. Overall, if you were to get anything here get the chicken.

Get the beef brisket and do not skip the white sauce! Ask what's just out of the smoker if you want to try something different. I found it to be a bit smoky (understandably) and prefer to get takeout. Either way - the food is fantastic. I like the hot BBQ sauce, my fiance likes the sweet. Plus I love the hibiscus and lemon water.
