Mutts Bbq

At my job we were given a catered Christmas lunch by Mutt’s BBQ of Easley. The menu was pulled pork, pulled chicken with a bun, ribs, green beans, mac and cheese, sweet potato soufflé and lemonade or tea. You could choose either pulled pork or chicken. I chose the pulled chicken. The pulled chicken did not have any seasoning at all, it was dry and tasted like canned chicken. The green beans tasted like they just opened the can and warmed them. The mac cheese was just that Macaroni with some cheese sauce I didn’t bother trying the sweet potato soufflé. The best part of my meal was the lemonade, it was delicious. I appreciated the gesture of a Christmas meal, but Mutt’s BBQ will not be on my list of places to dine in Easley.

The meat has no favor(add a little seasoning)other than the sauce on it. The okra was fried way to hard. The sweet potatoe crunch had no crunch and favor was bland. After putting the sauce on my meat it was very good. After adding some nutmeg, sugar, and cinnamon to the sweet potatoe crunch it was good still had no crunch though.

I’m a very easy going guy who can handle a lot of stuff. I work retail, so I tend to lean toward the good side when it comes to being served by people who have to deal with the public. But, today at Mutt’s BBQ I came close to being “that guy”. I went in around 1 pm and asked for a plate for me and a carry out for my wife who was home sick with this crudd that’s going around. The lady working the register charged me for my plate and said to just come back to her before I left to get the carry out for my sick wife. So, after eating my meal I went back to her and said I’d like to get the carry out for my wife now. She informed me that I couldn’t have a piece of chicken and the one rib that my wife requested of me because they were “running low”. It was around 2 pm now and I believe they close at 2:30 pm. There was no one in line for food and there was plenty of both types of meat at the bar. I questioned her as to why she couldn’t have just one of each and again I was told, “BECAUSE we’re running low”. Her rudeness escalated when I called my wife to see if she wanted something else. When my wife said that she didn’t want pulled pork or pulled chicken, and to pick up chicken from somewhere else, my patience with the lady’s rudeness ended. I asked her, “So a customer is not a customer unless they’re eating in?” At that point she turned and walked away from me, and disappeared around the corner never to be seen again. I wasn’t asking for a discount and was willing to pay whatever the price would be for the carry out. Money wasn’t the issue. My “suspicion” is that since it was almost closing time that they wanted to hold on to those items for themselves. Again, I say that is just a “suspicion” on my part since there were no customers in line anywhere for any of the food and it was so close to closing time. I met the owner of Mutt’s several years ago when I served him at my place of business. We had a good conversation about the food industry and the event that he had held there with Ted Cruz, which I attended. He came across to me as a very nice guy, and I did my best to serve him well. But today, I am most disappointed in the service that I received from his establishment and will think long and hard before ever going back. After being home for 3 days sick in bed, my wife is returning to work tomorrow. We will however, probably never return to Mutt’s. We’re getting a lot of new restaurants in Easley and Mutt’s just fell to the bottom of the list. Even in this current social environment, it amazes me that people can be so rude and inconsiderate to others.

The staff today was super friendly. They were helpful, polite, and all had smiles on their faces. It was nice to be greeted this way and at the buffet again another employee with a beautiful smile on her face. It was very welcoming. After getting our food, we went and sat down. I didn't see tarter sauce but wanted it and didn't mention it. I was approached by the lovely lady from the buffet and she took notice that I choose fish, she asked me if I wanted tartar sauce. I was thrilled sje took that initiative! She brought me some and we enjoyed our meal. I was a little skeptical on the fish... I couldn't tell if it was cooked through in some areas. So I put it to the side and I enjoyed the ribs, potato salad and fried okra the most. I also liked the hush puppies. I typically don't like hush puppies but these were good. We had a wonderful lunch and I would go back again. Just as we were welcomed when we came, we were told to have a blessed day as we left with a wave and a smile and it was absolutely appreciated. We hope to stop in again soon.
