River's Edge Inn

The restaurant is right along the Rock River with a nice view of the river birds and boats going by. There is plenty of free parking, most of it is not marked and gravel so it is difficult with a walker, cane or wheelchair. The restaurant is handicap accessible as long as there is someone to open the door for you. The restaurant was very clean and well appointed. We went had a table of 5 and ordered a variety of things from sandwiches to steaks the dinner meals came with the soup and salad bar. The food was served hot and fresh but it it was very spread out time wise and we had to ask for things that should have came out with the meal for example the top of the pork tenderloin's bun. The server was very friendly and as soon as we reminded her of things she brought them right out. The kitchen might want to work on it's timing and prep as sending out the same table's meals spaced out over 10 minutes could make the server look bad. There is a full bar and video poker machines if that is to your liking.

This place has really been cleaned up since we were there years ago. Everything was fresh and delicious from the soup/salad bar to our main entree. Their pick three special is an incredible value! I chose steak, chicken strips and shrimp. The shrimp was especially good being jumbo with a light crispy batter and piping hot. You can also get it grilled if you prefer. Although they do have a bar, our only disappointment was no draft beer. But that will certainly not keep us from returning to this great little place on the river. Highly recommend!

The food is good, the atmosphere is a little lacking. There's a lot of potential in this location. The service was good, prices fair. Update 5-27 This time, the atmosphere matches the food! The only reason for 4 star is because we requested water with no ice and received with ice and despite the request for crispy hash browns, they were barely cooked. :( Still good, but not up to two requests. Will try again when in town and hope to get this 4 to a 5! It's a lovely diner fare, recommend.

From the outside you might think this was a bait shop or warehouse, but once inside it’s a really friendly place, with great views over the river. We were there on a Sunday lunchtime, and it was nicely busy, and it was fun watching the boats going up and down stream. Food was good and service friendly, definitely a place to try again!
