Grumpy Goat Tavern

What on earth has happened to the Grumpy Goat? It used to be our favorite restaurant; in fact it was the first place we went when COVOD restrictions were lifted. However, our last two visits were abysmal. First we ordered the Nachos (my personal favorite). However, what came was a basket of cold, stale chips (that looked like they were dumped out of a bag) with a few random toppings scattered on top (the toppings were also cold & congealed). The server only came back to our table to bring the check. But the food had always been so good before so we thought this was a random occurrence. Sadly, we were wrong; our next visit was even worse. I ordered the brisket sandwich with the homemade chips. I took one bite of the sandwich & gagged. I removed the top bun of my sandwich and was horrified to see that instead of brisket, I had been served a sandwich comprised of mostly fat & gristle. It was disgusting and inedible. The chips were cold, stale, & burned. We had also ordered appetizers that never came. Our server had disappeared; we eventually saw him at the bar chatting with co-workers. He came over with the check and when I showed him my "sandwich", he asked if I wanted a box! Seriously??? He did ask then if we wanted it removed from the check. We also had to ask that the appetizer that never came be removed. These incidents were not at only one Grumpy Goat location; they happened in both Ankeny & West Des Moines. I am saddened by the fact that what was once a favorite hangout for my husband & I has gone so far downhill & COVID is no excuse. Even the thought of returning to the Grumpy Goat makes me nauseous.

My fiancé and I came here for a drink. Not only was the staff rude she allowed the patrons to be rude to us, too. Over charged us for our drinks that were advertised as being less. If you don’t play on the “straight” team I’d recommend you don’t patronize this place. I would rate as no stars if that was a option.

My first visit to the Grumpy Goat and I was not disappointed! I ordered the flatbread pizza and my wife ordered the chicken fingers. My pizza...gigantic, with fresh mushrooms and onions and delicious Italian sausage and beef! The chicken fingers. Eight of them about the size of chicken breasts, were almond encrusted and so moist and delicious! Come here to eat, drink, and ENJOY!! A great locally owned location!!!

Well it's been renamed as the Vibe with we were told new owners and management. We're still working through the alphabet of restaurant names and this got us the "V". Okay, I can't say that much has changed or improved. Again, we went on a Thursday night and service wasn't any better. Wife and I ordered fried pickles for appetizer and it came out quickly. Hot but bland. When we asked for an additional ranch dressing the waitress appeared annoyed - the first of many. Asked her about happy hour specials she went and asked, she came back with an annoyed response. I ordered a draft Ruthie from Exile and their cowboy burger for dinner. The beer had an off metallic taste to it (I drink alot of Ruthie). The burger looked impressive, stacked with veggies, bacon, thick juicy burger and stacked with onion rings and a couple of jalapeno slices. It didn't taste as good as it looked. No seasoning on the meat at all. Asked for additional bbq sauce to help it and received another annoyed look. The string fries were undercooked and again, no seasoning. We asked for salt, twice - more annoyed looks. Each time just a couple of small, single salt packages. Asked for more napkins, I had to go up twice to the bar and get them myself. I wish this new restaurant the best, but both times I've visited I haven't been impressed to go back nor recommend. Grumpy Goat Tavern Review: Not a busy place on a Thursday night but service was TERRIBLE! We came in and bartender didn't know how to make a black Russian drink and had to instruct her how to do it. Moved inside from the patio and 20 minutes at the table (with just 4 other tables occupied) had to go and ask for who our server was. Finally placed our order and about 10 mins later she came back to tell us there was a problem with one of the meals. 10 minutes!?! Thirty minutes later we're still waiting for food to arrive. The one order of appetizers arrived with food another 10 minutes after that. We HAD to ask for silverware! One of us ordered the brie and it was scorched to the bottom. Seeked out the manager, T.K., and explained my concerns and issues. He said their staffing was off due to an earlier group of 75. Just heard of this place and first - most likely only - time I'll come here. Positives: offered a desert or shot for the birthday boy.T.K. offered me a $25 gift card as an apology. 9 people in our group - 4 separate bills. The birthday boy got the gift card. Server was nice, busy the whole time.
